We were present for our daughter’s choir performance with Capital City Choir and the phenomenal Dr Byrnes. The recital and performance were an easy 5 stars. Opperman was a comfortable and quaint music hall that seemed to comfortably seat everyone.
The two stars is due to the security staff that was present. The woman was absolutely horrid. Please keep in mind that the choir of elementary school kids (grades 2/3) had been on site from 430 pm until after 8:00 pm. For anyone that has young children, that is an extremely long time to expect them to be quiet and contained, which they were. Many parents brought snacks and water for their children to prevent hangriness. Now the signs are very clear that no food or beverage was allowed into the theater. As adults, we understand that. I saw the “security guard” approach a mom who was bringing two bags of closed veggie straws to the classroom where her son was rehearsing. The director had brought raisins for the kids to snack on and the reality is that not all kids eat raisins so she was bringing them to him to have. This guard told the mother that no food or drink was allowed and the mom said she knew and explained what she was doing and in no way was planning on opening either bag in the music hall. The lady followed her and told her to get all of her food outside. She asked if she could just please bring him his snack and she made her get all the bags of chips and exit the building. When the mother said she had young kids and that this was the only reason she brought them in was because she keeps them in her bag, the lady said she did not care and could not trust her not to be tempted to eat them and they all had to leave. The security guard was very loud and made such a scene that it brought a lot of attention. The mother was absolutely mortified and embarrassed and shamed. It was a disgusting show of perceived power and was extremely disappointing to witness. Opperman… do better please in who you hire for...

Read moreI love opperman. I've performed there myself several times as a student musician, and attended concerts as well. The setting is charming, if slightly dated, and the seating is surprisingly comfortable for a college...
