Beware! Florida Prepaid is not that helpful at FSU. FSU tacks on $100 extra per credit hour in addition to your Florida Prepaid in university fees. For example, a full-time student taking 12 credit hours will still need to come up with $1,200 additional dollars each semester to pay for classes after their prepaid is applied. I am currently a senior at Florida State University (FSU) and it's alright. I went to Tallahassee Community College (TCC) for my first two years of college and, personally, I liked TCC much better. The quality of teachers and financial aid at TCC was much better. At FSU, it is very hard to get a straight answer out of anyone when you have questions regarding academics and financial aid. For example, three advisors will give you three different stories about what you need to do to complete your degree and three different people behind the financial aid desk will give you three different stories about what's up with your financial aid. Also, your GPA and work ethic is irrelevant for financial aid at FSU. Everything is based off of financial need and FAFSA. ALL HAIL FAFSA AT FSU! They will give you grants and scholarships for your first year at FSU to draw you in and yank them all away the next year for no good reason. Then you're stuck getting in student loan debt for several more years after that. On a positive note, the FSU campus is beautiful, there are lots of student organizations to get involved in, and many research opportunities. The harder part is getting straight answers so that you can graduate and avoid getting in debt along the way. Overall, I rate FSU...

I attended right out of high school, from 2012–2013. 90%+ of my college stories come from this time, all of them are crazy, and I wasn't even partying. FSU takes the term "party school" and dials it up way the heck past 11. All the drugs and alcohol coincided with a city that is very much not a safe place, especially where my dorm (DeGraffe) was. Gunshots and bloodcurdling screams were not at all out of the ordinary, and the casual nature with which people referred to certain landmarks (such as the, erm, Grape Tunnel and Trail (There was no G.)) is in retrospect quite concerning. The dining halls often gave us visibly dirty plates when parents weren't around, students got shot every semester (sometimes on campus), the school put out little propaganda placards on dining tables to show off its students' morality, except it was stuff like "9/10 FSU men believe a woman has the right to say no" which is, uhh. UHH. And to top it all off, it was virtually always 90%+ humidity. Don't go here.

Like, to give perspective: I once stayed in an AirBnB next to Methadone Mile in Boston. The other people in that AirBnB also happened to have attended FSU. We were UNANIMOUS that the worst part of Boston was LEAGUES safer than student housing on FSU. Let that sink in.

I hope it's gotten better since 2012, but I'm not...
