I wanted to like this place, I really did. We had read about the parking situation being tenuous and arrived around 6 pm on a Thursday and were fortunate and surprised to find several empty spots. The staff was great, welcoming us with smiles and kind words. Our waiter was friendly enough despite his ignoring my empty glass for the last half of our meal. The booth we were seated at had a loose seat back that was shared with the diners behind us. Throughout the meal, the slightest pressure would push the seat back into the person behind me, which would result in the inevitable retaliation by them towards me. We ordered the wonton appetizer, and it was really good. My wife ordered a cheese burger with fried green tomato and goat cheese on a brioce bun with a side of tater tots. The burger that arrived was just plain bad. The goat cheese tasted like what I would imagine a rotten foot would taste like and ruined the entire thing. Now, I've had plenty of goat cheese in my life, good and bad, but this stuff was just awful. Her burger came with tater tots that were exactly like the kind served at Burger King for breakfast, which I like, so no surprises there. I ordered a monstrosity that came with chorizo and sautéed peppers smothered in mashed potatoes topped with cheese on a large roll that was every bit as bad as it sounds; In my defense, I thought they may have stumbled upon some taste combination that the world had just discovered and was eager to get in on the ground floor and try it. I was wrong. The sandwich was wrong. Even breaking the sandwich down into its individual components, components of things I typically enjoy, couldn't save this meal. The mashed potatoes were bland and uninspired, the peppers were overcooked and stringy, and the chorizo sausage had terrible hints of bore taint that I just couldn't stomach. That being said, the atmosphere was the best thing this place had going for it and I just wish we had just ordered a traditional cheeseburger and fries; I think if we had, we would have really enjoyed our meal. By the time we left around 7 pm, parking was looking pretty desperate, so if you plan on going, try getting there by 6. Sometimes, it's not about being hungry. It's about...
Read moreMidtown Caboose has some of the best hamburgers in all of Florida! They are AMAZING! We visited here recently and absolutely loved the vibe of this place. Burgers are reasonably-priced (considering how unique and how many ingredients some of them have), service was great, and food tasted wonderful! Our only issue was the parking - do expect it might be a little difficult to find space at peak lunch/dinner hour!
We got: The Knuckle Sandwich, The PB&J Burger, and the S’more Than Words Burger, along with some fries, coleslaw, onion rings and hush puppies! The Knuckle Sandwich was an AWESOME combination - pastrami and a hamburger?! That’s heaven!! The PB&J Burger is an amazing creation - it may sound weird, but we first tried peanut butter on a burger at a fancy restaurant in Orlando and we never looked back. Try this one - the sweet and salty combine perfectly for an amazing bite! And finally the S’mores burger…oh my LORD was this good. I have never had anything like this and I am so, so happy we ordered it. It was unlike any other burger I’ve ever had and the taste was SO good. You need to try this hamburger when you’re here…but to be fair, any of those options is a home run! This is one of those places where you could order pretty much anything and be super happy. But since they have really unique burger options you don’t see elsewhere, why not try them?!
Regarding sides, they all were great options as well. French fries had great seasoning, coleslaw tasted exactly like what coleslaw should taste like (10/10), onion rings had an awesome crunch and great flavor, and hush puppies were perfect little balls of fried corn goodness. All in all, this was a fantastic restaurant, and when we are back in Tallahassee, this is the FIRST restaurant we...
Read moreThis is my 1st negative review of a restaurant ever. The place came highly recommended but right off the bat we didn’t realize the ac was out on a 90 degree day until we had already ordered. Ok, so ice water for everyone! But, we sat and waited for a greeting/water/menus for 10 minutes while other people were seated and tended to right away. After an apology from the waiter who was “not told we were seated”, good food and service would have rectified everything. The food came out late via a different server, hubbies $15+ salmon sandwich was not even warm and the fries were limp and also not hot. No silverware for my salad until I asked and then he brought one set….seriously? Could we possibly each have our own utensils? (Yes, needed—for cole slaw etc) Had to also ask for straws, and if the waiter had ever come back to ask how the food was, we would have given an opportunity to heat the cold food. He did come by about 4 times at the very end of the meal to stay “Still good?” So little very late and felt like a ploy for a good tip.
Honestly, I would give it 1 star but the chef salad was great (awesome dressing) and my son also liked his meal as well. Yes-still tipped but the 1st time I left less than 20% in many years. You can’t control ac issues or a mistake up front but at least make up for it with...
