The food here is excellent the service is mediocre. My wife and I decided to celebrate Valentine's day early and had a nice, quiet dinner here on Saturday. We arrived around 6 pm and we're immediately seated on the patio area near the bar. The hostess was reminded to bring silverware but declined and said they were already at the table... They weren't. The waitress came over 5-10 mins after we sat with waters and took our drink orders. My wife ordered a glass of wine and I a soda. We also ordered the t23 spin dip.
The drinks and app came out eventually. I didn't specifically time anything, but I felt like we were always waiting for something.
The spinach dip was good, it had gorgonzola or blue cheese in it and had a strong flavor. It wasn't the typical creamy spinach dip but was still tasty. It came out with some crackers that reminded me of pita chips. It was also supposed to come with some rolls. Upon delivery the runner said that the rolls were in the oven and would be out shortly. Our server stopped by to check on us, took our dinner orders, said the rolls would be out shortly, and I asked for silverware/napkins. After another 10-15 mins we had finished most of the dip sans rolls, the waitress came by and told us to stop eating and that she would get us some rolls. Finally after about 5 more mins the rolls made an appearance. I'm happy to say they were delicious; and complemented the dip well. They reminded me slightly of ciabatta. Shortly after getting the rolls we also got our silverware/napkins.
For our main course, I ordered the filet mignon, medium rare. It was delicious and cooked perfectly. The steak was 1.5-2" thick and about the size of my fist...probably 6-8 oz. It was a very nice piece of meat and had obviously been treated well. It was seasoned nicely, and was fork tender. It came with roasted brussel sprouts which were also delicious and some "frites" which were just potato wedges. They were a good compliment but didn't add anything special. My wife ordered the pork chop, "three little piggies" I think was the name. The pork chop was marinated in sweet tea and you could definitely taste it. It was seasoned nicely as well. I'll mention that it was cooked well-done by default, in spite of that it was still tender and juicy.
We finished our dinners and paid the check. With a few glasses of wine, app, and 2 entrees our bill came to almost $100 exactly.
Overall, as I said, the food was excellent but the service was slow and inconsistent. Several times throughout the meal both of our drinks and/or waters were empty. To me, this is the clearest indicator of poor service since it is quick and easy for the wait staff to remedy. I'd be willing to go back to the restaurant for another meal and would recommend it to others with the advice to go on a night where a slow relaxed dinner is desired...
Read moreThis was my first time here, and I had heard nothing but great things about this place from friends and colleagues. This was for my girlfriends birthday dinner. The experience was, in kind terms, UNACCEPTABLE. The absolute worst part was the service. Please keep in mind that everyone in my party has been in food service as servers for many years. Our waitress ignored us the whole night, and only paid attention to the table behind us; a table of politicians (more on this later). She was great until this table showed up. It got to the point where we would try to get her attention, and she would continually ignore us, and go right back to that other table. One of my party members even called her out on this! Our table was littered with empty plates and glasses. One of my party members ended up taking the PILES of dishes to the bus bin and that's when the manager got involved. When the food came out, the side dishes were cold. All the steaks were cooked to the wrong temperature. The bacon on the burgers was as hard as a rock and black. To top it off, the waitress didn't keep track of who ordered what and failed to give us correct checks. The manager had to step in and fix this. To avoid having to wait there for another extended period of time, one of my party members covered the whole bill for the rest of us to figure out later and pay her back. I expressed all my concerns to the manager, and he comped all of our drinks for the night. Which was nice, but the drinks were fine; the food and service were the problems in this realm. We ended up at the restaurant for 3 hours after we were seated, and only had the opportunity to get two rounds of drinks. To top it all off, the waitress came and found us outside after we left to try and explain herself. SHE ADMITTED TO PRIORITIZING THE TABLE BEHIND US. She said it's her "future" as she is in politics and said that my party had to understand that, and therefore had to give that table more attention for her own cause. My party was essentially forced to cater to her personal agenda. It wasn't an apology given to us, it was an "excuse". We were customers just like anyone else that was there. She is an employee, this is her job, and she did not do it well. Bottom line, I never write bad reviews for restaurants as an old food service member. I understand bad nights, but this wasn't because of a bad night. This was a product of absolute ignorance and disregard for someones service. I was sent through the roof. I don't understand how something like this is acceptable at a place such as Table 23. I will not forget...
Read moreTable 23 is a GREAT addition to Tallahassee. I understand that a few restaurants existed in the spot prior to its existence, but I hope this business lasts.
One of the best things about Table 23 is the ambiance! Whether you are celebrating a special occasion, want to have a few drinks with the guys or gals, have a date night or just want a good meal....this is a great option! I LOVE that I can sit at a bar or in a restaurant but it be like a HUGE covered patio. Its covered enough where I can feel like I'm outside but I'm not...well (technically)....I don't recall there being too many walls. This restaurant is well decorated and classy looking even though the vibe is extremely casual. There is a great happy hour and an awesome Sunday brunch.
So let's talk about brunch. For $13 you can get unlimited Mimosas (classic, cranberry or grapefruit) or Bellini's. I love that you can mix up the type and aren't limited to sticking to the first choice selected. I had 3 and was barely able to finish all three. Next time we may Uber there. :)
SERVICE: The bartenders were super nice and personable. Their service was quick and precise. The last time I was there, we were just kind of chatting and wanted to drink a litter before ordering food and they were ok with that. We didn't feel rushed to order nor did we feel rushed to pay once we were finished. Our mimosa glassed were big and almost filled to the top....thus supporting why I was barely able to finish 3.
FOOD: The chicken and waffles were AMAZING! I've never really been a fan of chicken and waffles. The concept of "fried chicken with syrup" just never set well with me. Well, I watch another customer devour it and was like, "I've got to try this." So I ordered it and didn't leave a crumb on the plate! The chicken was perfectly breaded and seasoned....and the blueberry sriracha syrup was the perfect compliment. The portion size was appropriate and I thought the price was fair.
It should be noted that the menu is small and limited. I wish there were more options on the menu period....not just the brunch menu. The prices are slightly more elevated than liking, BUT the ambiance and service makes it all worth it.
PRO's: Service, ambiance, happy hour, unlimited mimosas CON's: There are NO non pork meat options for brunch (i.e. turkey bacon or sausage), small menu and parking can be difficult at times but there is Valet on Sundays.
I'll definitely...
