When I arrived at the bar, the bartender without presenting a menu asked what I would be drinking and I asked for a menu. Upon review of the menu, I placed my order and was told I had to open a tab. I’ve been to a lot of restaurants and sat at the bar and unless it was a real bar in SOHO, I have never been asked to do this before. I found it a little old given how upscale the area is and the fact that I was only one person. Next, I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and noticed there were no paper towels near the main sink, the urinal was closed with a garbage bag over it and the only paper towels were in the stall.
I placed my order for a plain bacon cheeseburger cooked medium and nothing else on it. Upon waiting for my burger, there were several flies in the restaurant due to the door being left wide open which is never a good idea during the summer months. Upon my food coming out, they put some sort of weird sauce on my burger and it was over cooked. It took awhile to get someone’s attention as whom I believe to be the manager was on their phone and the rest of the staff was standing around while the bartender was working hard.
Finally it was noticed that something was wrong and the person I believe to be the manager came over since the food was very far from me otherwise I don’t think they would have asked me anything. She said she would have it remade and it shouldn’t take long. It took a little over 12 minutes to get the second burger and it tasted like they microwaved the chips that came with it.
The burger itself was cooked right the second time and had the right ingredients compared to the first time however due to the hot soggy chips that appeared to be microwaved, the lack of service, the lack of coming over to see how the second burger came out, the cleanliness of the establishment and the bathroom situation, I...
Read moreWhat's in a name? What's its meaning? Where'd that come from? That's what I wondered about Irish '31'... Could it be the old saying 'Thirty days hath September, April, June, and November; all the rest have THIRTY-ONE, except for February alone'? Nah, that totally doesn't make sense! Oh well, let's talk about the food.
I ordered the 10 chicken wings, bone in. I like mine just plain old traditional Buffalo mild style. I was intrigued when our capable server Micaela brought my order out. The wings were stacked neatly, like chicken bricks in a chicken wing wall. I figured IF they took that kind of effort to plate the dish, it was likely the flavor was locked in solidly as well. And I was right! These wings were really good!
Fab One at my side, she ordered the Classic Reuben, shaved corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Emerald Isle dressing on rye bread. As I sat next to her at the adult beverage consuming area(the bar), I saw the look I always hope to see appear on her lovely face. Yes, I know that look....she was satisfied! Yay!
Looking around the place gives a feeling of open-wide space. Plenty of lights and sights.....the sights of the city just beyond the grips of the a/c'd air. You can dine inside or on the pet-friendly shady patio.
So, we found a lucky clover hidden in Hyde Park. We look forward to returning for more shenanigans, or Reubens, or......???
Oh yeah, back to that Irish 31 name? 31 was the jersey number of the restaurant founder, when he played football at University of South Florida! TOUCHDOWN!
Tell them Beth &...
Read moreIf zero stars could be given that would be the choice. We stopped to watch the end of the buccaneers game, we ordered two beers and they were WARM even the mugs were not cold. When the waitress came which she mainly ignored us, I asked her for cold mugs and when she brought those beers out they were again WARM, i asked her about this and she said it might be the line of the particular beer ordered as the mugs she said were in the freezer. She took those beers and went ahead and ordered a different beer and those were also WARM. The waitress brought the bill and then left without telling us that she was leaving and we would have another waitress. I had to ask another waitress to be cashed out. When she came back with the receipts after paying the bill, I mentioned to her that the beers were WARM, and asked her to talk to her manager and let her know. She said she would see if they would credit our bill because of this. The manager came to our table screaming that the beers were not WARM and that she had tasted them herself and when I mentioned to her that they in fact were, she proceeded to talk over me and continued to say they were not and finally turned around and left our table. I cannot believe that any restaurant would treat their patrons that way, I have read the reviews and see a pattern In disagreeing with the customers and a lack of acknowledgement on this restaurants part. With the number of good restaurants out there, no need to waste your time on this one, there food is also...
