It was a nice lunch. The restaurant is located right at the end of Hyde Park Village, so it's surrounded by many other shops/eateries. An easy choice to take your kids as their pizza is pretty popular amongst everyone. The restaurant can fill up and get a little hectic inside, so don't expect peace and intimacy at this Italian spot.
We sat at the end of their long high top, on a Saturday afternoon. It was a convenient spot for us given we had a stroller to park. We were met with service fairly quickly and ordered a kid's pizza which came as half a round pizza, a square margherita which was six squares of a seemingly Sicilian style pizza, a classic cheeseburger, and a Caesar salad.
We asked our server if the cheeseburgers came on a hamburger bun or their mezzo doppio roll, we were told they did indeed come on the roll.. so we ordered it and found out they came on a burger bun. Additionally, the wrong burger was brought out.. but we kept it knowing we had touched it lifting the bun to verify it was the wrong one. We were offered to swap it but refused as we didn't want it to go to waste.
Honestly though, the foods came out promptly considering how busy they seemed. The Caesar salad was refreshing and satisfying, not a strong anchovy presence and it tasted mayo-based as opposed to oil and yolks but it was enjoyable. The croutons were delicious, and tasted similar to their pizza dough.
Their Forbici burger was what was served to us, as opposed to the classic. They claimed it to be a smash burger, but I suspect their interpretation of what a smash burger is different. The patties were thick for a proper smash burger and not enough crisp. It really lacked the flavors of a maillard reaction which is what I expected. Anyways, I am sure their Italian options would be better, I was just peaked when I read "smash" burger on their menu.
Their pizza had amazing structure and texture. The crust was crispy around the edges. The balance between the sauce and cheese ratio was on par for their crust. The fresh basil shined through the thick pizza. My preference is a more intense sauce and it missed the mark for me. I understand their pizza has received high praise but my review is based solely on my experience.
By the time we were done, my son had to seek our server for a takeout box and check. As we had been fiddling our thumbs for a minute. But again, it was a Saturday afternoon and they seemed busy, so not a big deal. We've definitely had better service in the past but overall their staff was very friendly and...
Read moreI booked a reservation for Forbici through my CapitalOne dining with my CapitalOne card. While parking was a bit tricky to find for me, my friends managed to snag spots right in front.
We’re all visiting from NY and CT. We’ve been to Tampa before, but it was our first time at Forbici Modern Italian. Despite the horrendous 1 hour and 30-minute drive from Orlando during rush hour, we were excited. I got there first, gave my name, and was promptly escorted to our table. The restaurant's interior felt clean, upscale, and very inviting, even though it was bustling inside.
The ambiance was enhanced by a live band playing, adding a delightful touch to our evening. Our waitress (I wish I could remember her name!) was fantastic—friendly, personable, and funny. She was chill about me waiting for my friends and gave us excellent menu recommendations once they arrived.
To start, I ordered a few OLD FASHIONED'S, which were superb, ARTISANAL BAKED BREAD with Alessi Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil and House Made Pesto, and the ANTIPASTO BOARD featuring an Artisan Selection Of Cured Meats, Cheeses, and Accompaniments. I also had an ESPRESSO MARTINI.
Once my friends arrived, we dove into several more dishes. I had the PESTO RIGATONI with Basil Pesto, Parmesan Cream, Garlic, Pine Nuts, Capers, Pecorino, and added grilled chicken. Unfortunately, I can't recall everything we ordered, but notable mentions include the CALABRIAN CHICKEN WINGS with Chili Infused Honey and Parmesan Ranch, CALAMARI A LA BIRRA with Pickled Fresno Chiles, Tomato Aioli Flores, and Gremolata, and the SIRLOIN ENTREE—10 oz All Natural Beef, Maldon Sea Salt, Arugula, Truffle Parmesan Fries. Everything was phenomenal.
I highly recommend Forbici Modern Italian. I will definitely be back next time I’m in Tampa. It was worth the trip from Orlando. Next on my list to try: CUP & CHAR SQUARE PIZZA, CACIO E PEPE, FORBICI BURGER, PRIME NEW YORK STRIP, TRUFFLE PARMESAN FRIES, ROASTED POTATOES, CHICKEN PARMESAN, PAPER PLANE drink, and THE TRIP drink.
I wish our waitress a safe trip; she mentioned she would be...
Read moreCostumer service that is leagues above the rest. My sister and I came here for lunch on a weekday. We made an online reservation, which was super easy. We got the fried ravioli as an appetizer (I think it was a limited special), Cup and Char (round) pizza, Firebird (square) pizza, and Parmesan Truffle fries. The Ravioli were very good, tasty cheese filling, nice and crispy, good sauce, but a bit overpriced for like 6 or 7 ravioli. The pizzas were both excellent. Both crispy in different and delicious ways, Calabrian buffalo chicken was unique, parmesan ranch went really well with it and the green onions added the perfect amount of freshness. The Cup and Char pizza equally delicious, they got that slight char on the pepperoni that cupped up and added their flavorful fat that melted all over the pizza, light and crispy crust. The parmesan truffle fries unfortunately came out cold. They probably just messed up the timing with the pizzas, but we mentioned it to our server and he apologized and immediately took care of them. He had us a fresh batch in what couldn't have been more than 2 minutes, apologizing again. I was floored. The speed with which they took care of it was crazy. Braxton was our server and he was nothing less than stellar. I've seen plenty of reviews for their good service but even if the rest were just as good I'd ask to sit in Braxton's section every time if there was room. He was super professional, pleasant and friendly, extremely attentive (we were never in want for drink refills), and checked in after each item came out to make sure we were happy. On top of the aforementioned impressive resolution to our fries. He even thanked us several times before we left. Hats off to Forbici for not only their food, but excellent responses to problems, and outstanding service. Customer service is one of those things that can leave the most lasting impression. In my opinion, far more so than food taste or quality. I'll long be sharing my experience with Forbici and specifically our stellar...
