I went to Tampa 22 this past weekend to for brunch. The music/vive was really good. The atmosphere was inviting and laid back. I enjoyed the vibe..The service was great. Our waitress was fast, attentive, and understanding. However, I was extremely disappointed in the food. I ordered the deviled eggs with shrimp. I was under the impression that it was a deviled egg with a shrimp in creole sauce or seasoning, however I was given 5 eggs on a plate filled with large mixed greens in the center. The shrimp appeared to be dry and crispy. My friend thought the shrimps were dehydrated. I tasted the deviled egg and the shrimp was indeed severely overcooked. There was no creole taste on the shrimp at all..This could have been an amazing appetizer if the execution was better, the presentation was nicer, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly.
Moving on. My friend ordered the chicken souse. When I heard that their soup od the day was chicken souse, I was shocked. I even asked the waitress what did they know about chicken souse and she was proud to tell me how good it was was. Well, when the chicken souse was brought to the table, it looked like a bowl of Campbell's vegetable soup, but with a thick sauce with shredded chicken. If you are from Bahamas or live in South Florida, you know that chicken souse is a light & clear broth made from lemon and limes and has chicken, potato celery and sometimes carrots as the main the ingredients. The liquid is thin enough to sip through a straw. However, what was served to my friend was a thick chunky chowder with green beans, corn, carrots and it was dark brown as if a roux for gumbo was used. A lack of research and execution was used when creating this dish. The chef did not seem to know much about what chicken souse really is .
Next on the table was the oxtail and grits. Let me just say that ot tasted like beef stew and my friend was served 1 oxtail and a bowl full of bones. The server attempted to correct the issue by bringing an additional bowl of oxtail meat, but there were no oxtails in that bowl either. More shredded like beef with gravy, carrots, and bones.
My mother had the catfish and grits. We were all like you can't go wrong with grits, but in this case the grits had no flavor. The creole butter was supposed add additional flavor to the entree, but it also lacked flavor. My mom left the restaurant still hungry.
My cousin ordered the short rib sliders and the seafood mac n cheese. Both items were on the table when we left. She ended up eating fries that came with my meal. The seafood mac n cheese needed salt and seafood. The noodles were overcooked and the cheese sauce was loose and watery. It missed the mark on creaminess and flavor. The short rib sliders were not appealing to look at. By simply looking at the sliders, we could tell that we were not going to enjoy them. The bread looked dry and was confirmed once actually tasted. There was not sauce to create moisture on the slider and the meat was just thrown on the bread. Again.. execution could have taken this up a notch. Maybe an aiolo or slaw added to the slider and then served on brioche buns, hawaiian rolls, or butter rolls would have elevated this dish.
However, all was not lost. The wings and the grilled cheese...
Read moreVisited this restaurant yesterday for Sunday Brunch with a party of 12. We had reservations in advance and when we arrived a few of the party members had not arrived and they had us stand outside until the entire party was present. Once getting inside it was a lovely environment, very upbeat and welcoming. It took about 15 minutes for our server, Bre, to come take our drink orders. We didn’t receive the drinks until 30 minutes later. Somewhere in between that time we ordered our appetisers and meals. When we received our appetisers there was a very long strand of hair running through the sliders. Someone had already ripped off a bit of chicken off one of the sliders but we requested new sliders. 2 minutes later, after originally waiting 20 minutes for the sliders, we receive “new” sliders. No. Same sliders they just took the hair because they left the one with a bit ripped off on the plate as well. So they expected us to eat the sliders the someone left a long hair running through. We sent them back again and apparently that didn’t sit well with them because we then do not receive our actual meals for 2 HOURSSSS. Twooooo wholeeee hourssss. Watching tables upon tables that came after us receive their drinks , refills and plates before us. We explain to our waitress we have a flight to catch soon and after we waited 2 hours we had to eat our food in about 5 minutes as we were already running behind at that point and needed plenty of boxes to go. She never brings boxes. Doesn’t come back to our table for a good 30 minutes. When it comes time to pay that takes another 30 minutes as she had to go back and forth to the register. Completely inconsiderate of our time and experience there at that point. We all got charged outrageous prices no less than $60 and they charged us all 20% gratuity all without even giving us a bill to see what we’re paying for, just throwing out a number and handing you the reader to pay. At the end of all this the waitress, Bre, is rolling her eyes and getting an attitude with us like we didn’t just spend 3 hours in their establishment, barely had time to eat and half the food was horrible ESPECIALLYYYY the grits and the smallest portions for big prices. The managers ignored us and they knew exactly what was going on the entire time nobody tried to rectify the food the wait the service nothing except for bringing out more apps for the wait and then charged us for that food as well without our knowledge. This place is robbing people blind and treating people horribly with no remorse. This was our last stop before leaving from vacation and it is nothing like the hype it ruined our Sunday morning. Our waitress was by far thee worst server I’ve ever had in my entire life. The whole experience was cringy actually. We wanted to leave an hour in and didn’t want to be rude for all this happen. 0/10 do not recommend don’t waste your money or time they do not appreciate your...
Read moreMy experience was on 8/25. My review didn't get posted, so here we are. It was an experience, to say the least. We basically spent our whole day here from 1:30-4:50 p.m. We had a reservation, and you would think it would be a smooth process considering they send confirming text the day before and the day of. But no, now I will say a few people ended up not showing up in our group, so our party size decreased from 10 down to 5. When we told the host, they said okay one moment. Well, that one moment turned into 40 minutes for what reason we don't know because there were a lot of tables available they could have sat us at. After waiting nearly 40 minutes, we finally got seated, and oddly enough, our table was at the door. This was weird placing to have a host stand, door, and a photo opp spot, so now people are taking photos right at your table. Once we were seated and got water, it took 15-20 minutes to order drinks and appetizers. We got out our drinks 15 minutes later, and our appetizers took so long that we ended up ordering our meal while waiting. Please note that if you are starving, it will test your hangryness. After our appetizers, we didn't get our main course till 4:09 p.m. The food wasn't hot, but it took so long to get there was no point in sending it back because it would have taken probably another hour. My side of scrambled eggs looked pathetic, like whoever made them don't know how to make eggs at all. Bigger tables and other tables after us got their food faster. The food was okay, but I could have had a lot better and faster food. The best part was honestly the DJ, because if it wasn't for him, all you would be able to think about is how long it took your food to get to you. The atmosphere decor gave party city vibes (not saying anything is wrong with party city), but for a restaurant, it just overall looks cheap. The tables, seats, decor, and random waterfall just weren't it. It was giving random family function and not a restaurant. Suggestions: Instead of trying to seat everyone at once when busy, take the name of the party and their phone number so you can text when their table is ready with an estimated wait time. This will help avoid having a crowd at the door. The organization could have been a lot better. We shouldn't have been there that long. It's not worth $66. I ended up at Chickfila. I was still hungry. I'm not sure why people gave this place a high rating. Maybe some just want to support the business, have low standards for service, or have basic taste buds. I could have and should have cooked at home. I've worked in the food industry before, and this was NOT it in the slightest in any aspect. For this place to open for a year or so, the kinks should have been worked out by now. 0/10 stars. I can think of a million places for brunch before...
