A 3rd visit and another drop in ratings. The food is ok, we had a much better experience our 1st visit but what we have had since is just not the same. Food is bland and there is just no chicken in the Chicharron de Pollo, all bone, twice now. Time to give up on this place.
A 2nd visit exposed some small inconsistencies, the mofongo was dry and less flavorful, my chicharron was mostly bone with little chicken and the beans were not as good as before. Sometimes, that's the way it goes.
I was drawn to Tito's by social media. With my nephew the dentist in tow, we decided to try a new Puerto Rican place he found on line. He's been living/working in Ocala and misses the food from home. So, food to go for 3, him and I and the wife.
Everything we ordered was very authentic and delicious. All 3 of us, agreeing as we ate how good the food was and how authentic it tasted. We had tostones, mofongo, carne frita, chicharon de pollo, arroz y habichuelas. All of it was very good. The star of the show was my wife's Mofongo. A ball of fried green plantain that has garlic, spices and sometimes caldo, mashed with a wooden mortar and pestle. It was moist, savory and flavorful we all tried it. Sooo, Tito can cook!
The place was clean, looked fairly new, had Nuyorican decor and was located on Waters Ave. a few blocks east of Armenia. Parking in front, part of a strip center, small and cozy. There was a nice young lady to take our order and bag it to go. The menu was brief but hit a lot of the typical dishes and treats you would encounter back in PR.
I will mention to people unfamiliar with Cuban and P. Rican food, that a lot of it is fried and they tend to over fry foods to an extent, it's a cultural thing, it's just their way. So when you order fried pork chunks, fried chicken chunks or fried pork chops, you can expect it to be well fried and dark. Which as a cook I stop short of that when I prepare food to leave more moisture...
Read moreI try this place for the first time bc my daughter likes to try different places to eat Spanish food. We'll the prices are to high gor what it is. Also to be a Puerto Rican place, when I ask if they gave Mofongo de Yuca, I was ask what was that? Then I ask if they have trifongo, answer was No, then I ask if I can have the mofongo Relleno the Shirms, and the answer was they had never heard about that, and if that is a Puerto Rican dish. WOW, I told the girl that El mofongo relleno of whatsoever it is one of the plates more requested in Puerto Rico. I explained to her that I was a true customer of Pal Campo and I always get the mofongo relleno. We'll I end up asking for una Alcapuria de Juyes, It has to be the worst I had ever have. It was grease and with no favor, for Mt main dish I as for carne frita con mofongo, and the meet was over fry and the mofongo had no taste. I expend $40.00 in garbage food. My son in law ask for white rice, beans and pork, and the parking had no taste either. Only one person taking the orders, and the same one bringing them out, only one cookie wait 1 hour for our food, and when it come out it was COLD. This place it is not worth the money, and if they don't know how to make Puerto Rican food they shouldn't say that the cooking is an out tentic Puerto Rican food. I will never go back... if you want real autentic Puerto Rican food Gob to...
Read moreThis is my Honest Review. I really had high hopes for some local PRican food when I don’t feel like cooking it myself. Keep in mind, I’m not very picky.
What I ordered: 2 pizza empanadas 1 alcapurria Chicharrón with white rice and beans Side of tostones Mayo-ketchup, garlic sauce, cilantro garlic sauce and some limes.
I ordered thru Uber Eats, total of $42.90
Pros: -The meat in the alcapurria was very tasty, the masa was kinda greasy and the size is like a big hot dog. -The tostones were perfect, slightly seasoned. -My daughter loves the pizza empanadas. Says they’re the perfect American Spanish fusion. I didn’t get to try one, so take her word cuz she’s a picky eater. -The little sauces are very good, my personal fave is the cilantro garlic.
Cons: -Chicharrón was mostly bone, one piece was strictly bone, and one piece the meat tasted and looked raw, and not chewable. -The white rice tastes like dry barely seasoned parboiled rice. -The beans had absolutely No flavor and were pretty much swimming in water. I’ve never had beans like that in my life!
*For $13 that plate was an absolute waste of money to me. Very disappointed bc that was my main meal.
Are other plates better than that was? I don’t know. Maybe. Would I go back and try more plates, not very likely.
I will say this, I’ll go for finger foods since it’s only 4...
