Large portions but prices reflect that. The food quality was all over the place albeit mostly serviceable. Service and dessert was the standouts of this place.
I've read the good reviews and heard good things about Stonefish. But when I finally went to try what they had to offer, I was left disappointed. We went on a Friday night and it was packed (full/over capacity packed). It was extremely noisy and for some reason the reverb of sound inside the dining area was getting amplified. My ears were literally hurting from the excessive sound levels. I was also getting dripped on by the air conditioning unit as the seat in the corner is underneath one. Despite that and the crowd, the service was still good. The staff did the best they could with how many people were there that night. We ordered the Fokai Fries, Huli Huli Chicken, Garlicky Chicken, Haupia Cheesecake, and Butter Mochi. The fries came under-cooked. They were pale and soggy with the insides sans fluff. I'm going to assume this was the kitchen rushing things with how busy they were. We notified the staff and they replaced it with a properly cooked one. Even with the fries fresh being crispy and fluffy, these weren't for me. It tastes like jazzed up movie theater nachos but with fries instead of tortilla chips. Great if you like that sort of thing. Onto the main dishes. The Huli Huli Chicken and Garlicky Chicken look identical, but the sauces are different. The seasoning and tastes are fine (one was a sweeter sauce the other was salty) but had an issue in that both "chickens" we got were incredibly tough and were lukewarm when served. Maybe these were cooked earlier and were sitting under a heat lamp for awhile that caused them to get tough/overcooked? And when I say tough, this was almost at "Jack Links beef jerky" texture. My gums were sore for a few days after is how tough these were. I was hungry and didn't want to send anything back anymore so I just pushed through it. Lastly, for dessert we ordered the only 2 things on the menu, the Haupia Cheesecake and the Butter Mochi. These were good. Great homemade taste, coconutty and the butter mochi tasted like it was fresh out of the oven. Both were sweetened just right, not too much, not too little.
I wanted to like this place, especially after hearing good things about here. They could have just had a bad night considering the crowd, or I ordered "not so good" items on the menu. Perhaps a revisit is in order, but the prices and portion sizes mean the possibility of getting a lot of food you don't like is leaning towards high risk gamble...
Read moreI’ll give this place 2 stars because what I ordered wasn’t good, but I plan on trying this place again, getting maybe the parrotfish or the mahi next time because you can smell the fresh fish as you walk in. If you like flavor and appreciate a savory chicken teriyaki, don’t order this off the menu. It’s very very bland. Doesn’t taste like anything. On a better note, It’s cool how the place is set up on the top golf style course though. Seems like a very chill vibe and as mentioned I’ll be back to try...
Read moreWow, this place rocks! An incredible addition to our island's fantastic dining scene! Gastronomic masterpieces carefully and lovingly crafted using the best and freshest ingredients, delicately presented, and served by the friendliest staff in Guam...and yes, the portions are generous!
