I will preface this review with the fact that as a Greek, having lived in Thessaloniki, and having ordered countless gyros Thessalonikis, I did not read what was on the menu listed as gyros Thessalonikis. This is because internationally, the gyro Thessalonikis is universally made with pork gyro, ketchup/mustard, fries, onions and tomatoes.
Once my gyro was being made, I was asked if I wanted tzatziki on my gyro, after it was already applied. I was then concerned. This is how gyros are made in Athens. When I said no, the server threw the pita to the side. I then asked for ketchup and mustard and was told they don't have it. Ok. They asked if I wanted grilla sauce. I opted for it, as I didn't want it plain. Once I eagerly opened up my nicely wrapped kupriaki pita (didn't know the pita was kupriaki style) I was shocked to see soutzoukaki (oblong meatballs traditionally from Smyrna) in my pita. They were not bad, but I had never had soutzoukaki without the traditional tomato sauce, thus, they weren't tender as I'm used to. Worse yet, once I looked up the Thessaloniki gyro up on their website, it was listed as having keftedaki, which is a Greek fried meatball. Compounding my culinary displeasure is the fact that I thought I was getting a gyro, and I got a pita with meat on it. A gyro sandwich has meat cooked on a gyro/spit. Soutzoukaki and keftedaki are not spit cooked. Thus, I feel slighted by the misrepresentation of our Greek culture and cannot recommend this place as having...
Read moreFirst time going and since they are under construction, I'll give them a pass on the ambiance. We both got a make your own bowl. I did rice pilaf, grilled veggies, cheese, steak tips and grilla sauce. They added an impressive amount of steak tips...well worth the $6 add on for them & they were delicious. I don't know what the grilla sauce is, but also delicious! My fiance got the grilled chicken and Alfredo sauce and said it was very good. Now everything moves along pretty quickly and we would have been done and out of there quickly, but I saw they had smoothies and wanted to try one, then my fiance wanted a milkshake. It started to get busy and I'm nit sure if they don't make them often and the ingredients weren't readily available, but the drinks ended up holding us captive for a bit before they were ready and we could check out. Best mango smoothie I've ever had! I was told the milkshake was very good. Desserts looked amazing but did not try on this trip. Will definitely...

First of all, thank you Grilla for choosing to open a restaurant in Taunton. You could have done it anywhere, but took a chance on us. Welcome to Taunton.
Tauntonians - this may be the healthiest food in town. Great mix of flavors, raw ingredients, and deliciously prepared proteins. I mean flavor, off the charts. This was seriously some of the best food I've had outside Providence.
I got the rice bowl with chicken and beef with a bunch of the raw options and a side of their stuffed grape leaves. Because I was a first timer they graciously gave me a side of their delicious beans just because I was thinking about them.
Also - if you like greek GET THE TZATZIKI!
Holy moly - seriously good Tzatziki. Excellent pop of tangy flavor.
It was all great and I couldnt eat it fast enough.
Well done!
I will be back for sure!
