This is quite the hidden gem 🌸 While we have driven by this place multiple times and haven’t given it a second glance most days, we eventually decided to try it and our family was most definitely not disappointed in the slightest!
The servers created a cosy diner like atmosphere, with a familial vibe to it. It felt clean, with well maintained and stocked tables with an assortment of jellies, sugar packets, ketchup, mustard and cream packets. Not to mention the napkins and silverware were pristine, not bottom of the line single ply napkins by any means or bendy forks that can’t stab into a slab of meat before breaking. The servers work very diligently at stocking up each and every table with practiced efficiency. All the employees seemed to be in high spirits, chatting amongst themselves pleasantly whilst being on top of their serving duties. They certainly won’t brush off or ignore a customer in need even if they’re in the middle of their own conversation. We visited around one in the afternoon on a Saturday, and it seemed decently packed. Not too much but not too little, the servers did an amazing job managing the amount of customers they had. Our server (bless his heart, we don’t remember his name), was an absolute sweetheart. He had his hair up in a sophisticated man bun, not too tall, nor short and was the absolute sweetest. Did exactly what he needed to do for his job, no attitude or trying to force more expensive meals onto us. He listened dutifully and handled our dishes from the kitchen line to our table, no wobbles or tampering with it in the slightest. Very professional and definitely one of the highlights of our experience here.
Now, onto our food and drinks. For the four of us, it’s occasionally difficult to cater to everyone’s tastes due to food sensitivities or simply a different preference. We ordered: A beef shawarma wrap with fries, a chicken finger wrap with onion rings, two sides of bacon, a side of fries, and a slice of carrot cake. There was five or six strips of deliciously cooked bacon for each side. Everything came out at once, I had the luxury of being able to see our order made one dish at a time before our server gathered all our plates and brought them to us in a timely manner. We can’t say exactly how long it took due to us holding a conversation for the allotted time. I can’t say it was longer than ten minutes since we didn’t notice it taking a while. Here is something we must admit.. we didn’t have a second to take any pictures of our food simply because it looked delicious and we couldn’t help ourselves from digging in before half way thinking “Oh we should’ve taken a few photos for our review”. Our drinks were well carbonated, and tasted as they would in any other place. But we definitely won’t forget to take some pictures the next time we come around 🌸
All in all, this is a Coney Island worthy of praise. The food was exceptionally good, came out extremely quickly compared to other places, the servers were professional and kind to us, the area was clean and sterile, there really isn’t much more a person can ask for in a restaurant. It isn’t a fine dining place, and it doesn’t strive to be one, it’s an affordable, cosy establishment fit for a warm, pleasant bite to eat. Our family will definitely be stepping back in Leo’s Coney Island on Telegraph in the future. 🌸 Thank you for a wonderful experience. Sincerely, La Familia Hernandez 🌸
Sidenote: For families with disabled children. Our son (who has autism) had a wonderful time, enjoyed his meal and had a blast looking around. He especially appreciated the fire from a table that ordered the Greek Cheese dish. There was no rude stares, no judgmental attitude, everyone proceeded to work as they usually would without any issue. Another friend was seated a few tables behind us, and they seemed to be having fun with a big smile on their lips with plenty of laughter matched with many stims. This is a safe space, feel free to come and enjoy a...
Read moreI have been coming to this coney for over 13 years. The past 2 years there has been a decline in the staff at the register. I’ve never experienced dining in so I’m only speaking to the ones that answer the phone. Today was the worse night ve ever experienced. The young girl answering the phone today at around 8:30pm was extremely rude about telling me to hold. After holding for about 5 minutes, I hung up and called back feeling like maybe I was forgotten about. Again, she answered the phone with an attitudinal tone and told me to hold even more rudely. Being a customer for over 13 year I am aware of the caller ID so she knew it was me calling back. After holding for 3 minutes she picked up and said “place your order”. I said “Woe, that was unexpected.” I hesitated a bit because I was thrown off so … she hung up on me. I called back and she hung up on me 2 more times. And these were purposeful. Calling back again I asked for a manager once she finally came to the phone after putting me on hold without saying a word. I asked for management and she left me on hold for 8 minutes this time. I hung up and called back. This time she was a tad bit nicer and said that she was coming. The manager’ was initially very dry and uninterested. I told her what happens and her response was “Okay, I’ll have to talk to her and see what happened. Are you placing an order?” After I explained how the interaction with her made me feel even worse and her response left me to feel unheard and I was not ordering because now after patronizing for over 13 years, I’ll never be back and I’ll be trying to take this complaint higher than her… then her tone finally changed. She said she would speak to her and that was unacceptable.
I feel unheard and offended and will definitely never go back! I’ll also be looking for a higher...
Read moreMy overall experience was well dining late night. Among other coney's this one provided a unique experience. I can see much more room to improve with young staff and cooks and most importantly service experience. Often small frequent mistakes happened that normally would not be made with a more experienced staff. But the food selection was far greater than normal. Thank you Joanne for the pleasent experience.
The Leo's Cheeseburger w/ bacon was "not to bad". Though parts of the patty was burnt and over well done, leaving the flavor of the burger a little bland. And yes, the chef's forgot the cheese. The bacon was nearly overdone but edible. Generally speaking the Burger was decent.
Amongst the service you see a bombardment of customers, often leaving little time for service to a near minimal. Frequently orders are frantically being made with some mistakes. Often you could hear the waitress staff saying they needed something else. When being serviced myself I was often left with the feeling (eat and leave) as I was being rushed to accomodate others. And yes Joanne those cheese sticks were left on the counter for over an hour, whomever they were for. (Not your fault).
Though the Coney was clean, there was plenty to admire and look at, my eyes caught attention to two associates. One was a busser boy or cook, had once scratched his behind with his hand. And one older female waitress I presume, that had used her palm and sleeve as a catch for some itch her nose had. (You had to be there to really get the full effect) Though everyone was happy, even if they waited for food.
I will be dining here again to update how well they progress, hopefully for the 5 stars. If there are any managers/owners that read this, take note of everything I've stated. There is still room for...
