I frequent this restaurant about three times a month majority of the time I do get carry out the one time I tried to introduce my husband to this during lunchtime. I had the most horrible experience with a server there. We were the second table that was seated and she came and got our drink order Since then two other tables were sat. She got their drink orders and then proceeded to get everyone’s drink then another table came in and she got their drink order. She disappeared for 15 minutes. No one has yet got their order placed with me being on my lunch break after being there for 25 minutes I went up and asked if someone could take our order so that I can eat before I leave This person who was doing carry out came and took my order. She explained that she’s only doing carry out and she’s only placing our order for the server we told her it was completely fine and we understood then the server comes out drops off drinks takes everybody else’s order, but doesn’t come back to our table because she was told our order was taken Then she proceeds to give everybody who ordered the lunch special. their soup and their salad. Ours did not come after another 10 minute wait I flagged down the person who was doing the carryout and told her I wanted to cancel my order because I only had 20 minutes to eat And I still had to drive to work. Then the actual server came over and I explained the same thing to her and she said well I didn’t take your order. I’m not sure what you got and I said well with our lunch order we should’ve got the soup and salad. I said that would’ve been sufficient and I would’ve asked someone to box up my sushi for me, but since nobody returned back to the table, I didn’t have time to tell anybody that so I would like to cancel my order Then I was told my food was just about ready and that they could go ahead and serve it, and I asked them to just box it and to bring the bill the server, then brings the bill and drops it on the table in front of my husband. I already had the card in my hand and saw what it was and put it on top by the time she turned around I said she was free to take it. She then said you don’t even wanna see what the bill is and I told her I already saw it And then she walked away saying I was being rude and then was mumbling about me in regard to what our conversation was to her other employee. I decided at that time I no longer want the food. I asked them when I went up to her. I heard her talking about me and I wasn’t trying to be rude in regards to rushing my food. I just now want to leave. She already rang up my order and I told her I no longer wanted it because I hear her talking rudely about me. She then goes. I was being rude to her because of the bill and how I said I saw the bill already and she felt that I didn’t look at it long enough.. it was a $25 bill. She then said that I was being rude and I told her I didn’t appreciate her being rude either and I now no longer want the food and I just want a refund so she started to fuss and yell and walked away and the cook my guess is the manager came and apologizing and refunded me. To be honest, I felt really bad for returning my food because number one I know the food there is delicious, but I just could not pay for service hearing her talking...

During my recent visit, I decided to try the tonkatsu, a departure from the restaurant’s sushi-centric reputation. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the owner, whose passion for his craft is palpable. He not only oversees the kitchen but also takes the time to interact with guests, ensuring everyone feels at home.
The tonkatsu was an absolute revelation. The dish arrived impeccably presented, with a golden-brown, perfectly breaded pork cutlet resting atop a bed of finely shredded cabbage. Each bite was a testament to the chef’s skill; the exterior was crisp without being greasy, and the meat inside was tender and succulent. The accompanying sauce was rich and tangy, complementing the flavors perfectly. It’s clear that the same meticulous attention to detail that goes into their sushi is applied to all their dishes.
Beyond the food, what truly sets Sushi Bar apart is the atmosphere. The interior is a harmonious blend of modern and traditional Japanese aesthetics, creating a cozy yet elegant dining environment. Soft lighting, tasteful decor, and the gentle hum of conversation make it an ideal spot for both intimate dinners and casual gatherings.
The owner’s dedication to providing a memorable experience shines through in every aspect of the restaurant. His genuine enthusiasm for sharing Japanese cuisine and culture is infectious, and his hospitality is second to none. He took the time to explain the origins of the dishes and recommended a delightful sake that paired beautifully with our meal.
In a city with countless dining options, Sushi Bar stands out not only for its exceptional food but also for its welcoming atmosphere and personalized service. Whether you’re a sushi aficionado or simply looking to enjoy a delicious meal, Sushi Bar is a must-visit. My experience with the tonkatsu was nothing short of extraordinary, and I can’t wait to return and explore more of their menu.
In conclusion, Sushi Bar offers a dining experience that goes beyond just eating; it’s a celebration of culinary artistry and heartfelt hospitality. If you haven’t been yet, do yourself a favor and make a reservation. You won’t be...
Read moreHands down… THE best sushi I’ve ever had. This review is long overdue but I have been a handful of times now and none of my usual haunts even compare anymore.
First visit was with my husband on Valentine’s Day, Jamie was so kind to reserve us a spot at the sushi bar so we could watch Chef James work his magic. They had an awesome holiday special with flaming rolls and delicious fried oreo dessert. Not only was every table packed during our stay but the to go orders never stopped, people lined the walls - it was awesome to see. It spoke volumes to the food they make.
Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, my friend and I who’ve known Jamie for years finally stopped in together. We are huge sushi fiends, having worked at a few sushi restaurants, and have been to every place from Royal Oak and Ferndale to Detroit to Novi and Farmington. You name it, we’ve probably been there multiple times. I was once again blown away!
The service is always top notch, our server was so nice and let us work our way through the menu and sake for hours, and the sushi still can’t be beat. Even the size (and taste/quality) of the tuna in their simple roll, at the lowest price we’ve ever seen, was incredible!
We always go to the same places because we not only love sushi, but we are addicted to soondubu, which few places have and do it well - The Sushi Bar knocks that out of the park too. We literally couldn’t get enough.
Needless to say, I will be a repeat customer forever. I absolutely love everything about...
