My family and I used to go to the Hutto location at least once or twice a week. My mom would get the BLT or baker and salad and my dad would usually try different item menus ranging from the chicken fried steak to the grilled pork chops. I used to get the Hutto hippo burger or salmon salad. We used to try the different pies from the blackberry cobbler to the key lime pie. On average we probably spent between $200 to $300 a month and we did that for over 6 months. We thought we had found a lock haunt that was worth the effort. I even started telling friends about the place, including my friendâs mom who works for Hutto ISD and she would tell her coworkers. My mom was evening telling her church group about it, but then things began to change. The service and the quality of the food began to go downhill. Wait times on a Friday or Saturday night could be 35 minutes to get your food. You would see the servers just standing there on their cellphones. Because the restaurant is small if you sat close to the kitchen you could hear people cussing at the kitchen or the kitchen cussing at the servers. Sometimes you could even hear a manager, general manager or owner swearing which seemed very unprofessional. Even when the server was decent you could just tell they were stressed out. The food was also getting smaller portions each time and sometimes the food was cold. While the pies were great, if you got one on a skillet it could take 10-15 minutes when it was busy, which is ridiculous. After the 6 months we cashed in our loyalty points and decided not to go there. We told everyone we knew to stop doing business with them. I tried coming to the new location here in Taylor because I missed the pies, and I wanted to support local business and hoped that maybe there was new management or ownership that had solved the problems that the previous management and ownership had created but sadly this location had the same problems as the one in Hutto did. The service was terrible, no one to get the pie for 5 minutes and when I tried to thank them and server rudely said get out, we donât want you here. It was shocking to hear, but it reinforced the notion that my family, friends and I will not be coming back here. Also the Taylor location has no design, it looks like a classroom cafeteria, as if little effort was put in to create an atmosphere or welcoming environment. Sadly from what Iâve heard the owner and management have had issues with how they treat their employees, especially those with disabilities or lgbtq employees which is sad to hear. Itâs not a welcoming place to employees and obviously became not a welcoming place for me and my family at either location. Thatâs at least $200-$300 of business a month you lost, between $2400-$3600 a year and we will continue to let others know not to do business at this establishment. Itâs a shame because it was nice in the beginning and we wanted to support local business but as the old saying goes all good things must come to an end and we have officially ended our business with the Texan Cafe for good at both locations and wonât be coming back and will tell all our friends and family and local community to not go to either location and spend their money at other restaurants that treat their employees and...
Read more5 âď¸ PIES! 𼧠We came to visit Taylor Tx and I highly recommend getting some pies to go! We ate our pies at the beer garden at Old Taylor High. We each ordered 2 different kinds of pie and all were AMAZING! Out of 6 different pies we tried, every one was 5 star perfect! We will be back for pie to go!
I do want to mention: The building smells and I would never be able to eat inside, itâs an old mildew type smell. The bathroom needs attention. I judge a place by their bathroom. Not only do walls and floor need cleaned but the toilet seat is broken (you have been warned you may fall into the toilet) and thereâs no toilet paper in the dispenser (reach around behind you to grab unsanitary...
Read moreWe needed good places to eat and the Texan Cafe is a great fit. We have eaten there a few times, mostly successful. A couple things to know, first, they do not have the exact same food as their Hutto location and their specials that show up on their website as available in Taylor location are not necessarily accurate, call if you are going for something specific youâre craving. Their chicken and dumplings, catfish, shrimp, sides, Texas toast and onion rings were all fantastic and portions are to make sure you donât leave hungry. If youâre craving liver and onions, think twice unless you prefer them well done and a bit on...
