Los Tapatios Taco Grill presents itself as a contender in the competitive world of Mexican cuisine, but it fails to deliver the robust and dynamic flavors expected from a standout establishment. The dipping sauce, a crucial element in enhancing dishes like birria tacos, was notably disappointing. Its flavor was weak, bordering on bland, and lacked the depth necessary to complement the meal—a missed opportunity to make an impact.
When compared to other notable Mexican eateries, such as Cocina Familiar Mexican Cuisine in West Valley, Los Tapatios simply does not measure up. Cocina Familiar sets the bar exceptionally high with their rich, flavorful birria and consomé dipping sauce—arguably the best in all of Utah. The boldness and complexity of their seasoning make every bite a memorable experience, showcasing what expertly crafted Mexican cuisine should taste like.
While Los Tapatios has potential, particularly in refining their flavor profiles, they have significant ground to cover before they can compete with Utah’s culinary heavyweights like Cocina Familiar. For now, it remains a passable option, but far...
Read moreWhile looking for a good place to sit and have dinner, we saw Los Tapatios grill. The open sign is off and we thought we just missed another good spot to eat. Bummed out, we were about to leave the parking lot but wait, there is people inside and on the front door, clearly it’s said close time is 9pm on Thursday. We were excited, it’s 8:08 pm. Hallelujah! I can picture eating a quesabirria with consome just like the one in downtown. The Wolfpack is about to have a feast. We order our food and then it all went downhill after. For some odd reason we were told it was only take out. Weird! If I wanted take out I would have order for take out 30 min before. The guy could have given an explanation but of course, there’s no explanation. I decided not to ask, I know how it is, maybe everyone wants to go home to their families. But the food was dry, not good. Extremely disappointed. I was going to let it go but wait, maybe the owner doesn’t know this, so I thought, if I was the owner I would like to know these things. It felt right to...
Read moreHusband and I loved the food, highly recommend trying the carnitas in particular. I'm usually an asada person, and it was very good, but the carnitas were great! Nice little hint of spice in the dishes, at about green chile level. I don't tolerate spice very well and found it tasty as long as I had a drink on hand. My kids don't have the same palette and all of them said the nachos were too spicy (which we knew the risks going in so no stars deducted!) atmosphere is just fine, loved seeing some little alibrejes for sale. Literally the only negative I have is that when we went there were like 3 tables available big enough for my group and they were all dirty and there's no self cleaning station. It was during dinner hour so I assume it was just bad timing. Luckily I have Lysol wipes in my purse for a reason 😎 awesome experience, look forward to...
