Butterflake Bakeshop — Restaurant in Teaneck Township

I ordered a sheet cake from my town bakery, Butterflake Bake Shop. I asked if I could have my own digital design placed on the cake prior to ordering and was told yes. I was told to come in before their decorator left on the day I come to pick up the cake to put the topper onto the cake. I came in two hours prior to their decorator leaving and was told they were not able to put my topper design on the cake due to their Kosher regulations. If I had known this prior to ordering, I would not have ordered the $48 sheet cake from them. I didnt make an issue of it since it was beyond their control. When my husband went to pick up the cake and I opened the box, the cake was a round cake! When I called them to make sure my husband picked up the right cake, the woman on the phone told me that the round cake I received was a sheet cake. I told her that a sheet cake is rectangle and that .I specifically gave them the dimensions of my design topper and that it would not fit a round cake! She continued to try and convince me that the round cake I was looking at was a sheet cake and also said the cake topper would fit. The cake looked awful and not what my daughter wanted for her design. They were very attentive to you when ordering but once you come at them with a complaint, they could really care less and go as far as to say "well, you already paid for the cake and we made you a cake." Being a resident of Teaneck for over 40 years, Butterflake was THEE bakery in town. This place has gone way down hill. If you need a kosher or nut free bakery, I can understand giving these people your business but only if your first three places didn't pan out and you were desperate. If you are looking for a specific cake that actually tastes good then stay far away from this bakery. I would have been better off making the cake myself....

The husband and I stepped in here out of curiosity while we were in the area because we'd heard they'd been around for such a long time.

Among the copious shelves of breads and pastries, what immediately caught my attention was the doughnuts (so much that I'm surprised few reviews mention them). Forget your traditional glazed and cinnamon sugar bites; there are no boring doughnuts here. Instead, my eyes goggled the decadent s'mores and colorful fruit pebble doughnuts. I was especially taken by the Scotch doughnuts, all which were impaled with a little pipette of actual liquor. The offerings range from the traditional to the extremely bold and inventive, and to see that at a pastry shop that's been around as long as Butterflake has is certainly to be commended.

We were surprised at the lively throngs of people who were crammed in there on a random weekday afternoon. There didn't seem to be a line or any sort of order; just a lot of displays and counters with people behind them. That, along with the dimly lit interior and slightly disheveled appearance, lent to a general feeling of chaos.
