EJ's Place — Restaurant in Teaneck Township

I've been going to EJs for a little over 10 years. I don't know what's changed but things have really been heading downhill over the last year or so. The staff is really struggling to keep up with demand. I don't know if they need an additional oven, additional staff or both. This leads onto another problem: order prioritization. People ordering at the counter shouldn't be told its a 25 minute wait for 3 slices while one pie after the other from phone/online orders goes out for delivery. (It's fast food place). Lastly, clean the store. Below is what all of the empty tables looked like and an employee in the corner folding pizza boxes basically implied i should clean it myself. It's just gross. The second star is because, usually, the pizza is still good. But seriously, the owner needs to wake up and pay attention. Twice recently i had to go across to Sammy's. I used to come here as a kid every week, I had birthday parties here and it was a place my family loved. I recently visited again for the first time in many years and WOW has EJ’s gone downhill. The place is a dump, the windows haven’t been cleaned in years, the walls are falling apart, and everything is covered in a thick layer of dust and grime. The service was also poor, the owner was sitting there texting while a 12-year old kid was taking orders, he would also often go behind the counter to play on his phone and people were standing there waiting for someone to take orders. The pizza is ok, however the sauce has changed and not in a good way. EJs used to be known for its sauce, now it’s pretty generic and bland. Really sad to see a childhood favorite...

The pizza is ok.

The style of pizza is very doughy and very saucey. I personally prefer a thinner crust and not as runny. But I wouldn't call it bad.

It's an odd place to visit. Honestly it reminds me of a pizza shop that just opened and hasn't quite figured it out.

The wait times are always long as long as people are in the store, even if it's not particularly busy. Very often chairs are on the tables and need to be pulled down, and I've never sat down to a clean table.

But my biggest issue is that there's no way to schedule deliveries early for a specific time, the only option is "asap" and when I called for a recommendation as to when to place the order based on the time that I needed it the answer I received, I swear, was "I couldn't tell...
