As a former restaurant and nightclub manager and also a recent patron of Sal's, the following is my assessment of strengths and weaknesses. Strengths:
Disappointing Shift – No Longer Allergy-Friendly ⭐ 1 star
It’s heartbreaking to write this, because Sal’s used to be one of our favorite local restaurants. Not even two years ago, we were thrilled to discover Sal’s because of how accommodating they were with food allergies. I remember the conversations we had with staff about how seriously they took dietary restrictions—especially since someone in their own family dealt with severe allergies. That level of care and understanding meant everything to us.
Unfortunately, something has changed. In recent visits, both dine-in and takeout, I’ve experienced a noticeable decline in their willingness to accommodate my egg allergy. Despite clearly expressing my concerns, the staff was dismissive, offered no alternative options, and made no effort to help me navigate the menu safely. It left me feeling not only excluded—but genuinely unsafe eating there.
In a time where food allergies are more common than ever, it’s disheartening that Sal’s now seems to make no effort toward inclusivity for people with dietary restrictions. There’s no allergen-friendly menu, no visible allergy policies, and no willingness to communicate or problem-solve.
Having a food allergy isn’t a lifestyle choice—it’s a medical necessity. And when restaurants ignore that, it sends a message that our safety and comfort don’t matter. I truly hope Sal’s reconsiders their approach and returns to the kind of welcoming, thoughtful service they once offered. Until then, I can’t recommend this restaurant to anyone with allergies—or anyone who dines with someone...
Read moreWe used to love Sal's. Even after covid, we've been very understanding with the wait times and whatever else. The last year though they seem to constantly forget or mess up parts of our order. Everything from forgetting a whole dish, to forgetting all the sides that come with the dishes. Last night they forgot our sides... again. Usually we don't fuss and just forget about it. Last night I decided I was over being so forgiving and I called. The girl on the phone was very apologetic and wrote us down for a free appetizer next time we ordered. Cool. Then I realized my calzone had no cheese on it. It was late and after hours so I decided to wait til today. I call, first lady was nice, apologizes and gets another woman. Second woman tells me she asked the person who made it last night and they said that there was in fact cheese on it, and next time I should order extra cheese. We order for a family of 5, usually spend quite a bit of money on each order, AND leave a generous tip. If we ever decide to order from Sal's again, I'll be making sure to call every time they forget or mess something up from now on. Although, I don't know how much good that will do if they're just going to say they asked whoever made it, tell me I'm wrong, and offer zero...
