I have been going to Sals for 4 years. This last Sunday my Wife and I took a friend from Chicago to Sals. We were seated quickly. I ordered Spaghetti with mild Italian sausage, my wife ordered chicken Marsala and our friend ordered Lasagna and we also ordered Calamari. She brought the Calamari and served it with Sweet and Sour Sauce. We had ask for Marinara sauce. My wife received something in a cream sauce with spaghetti and chicken pieces small cuts that was terrible. I received spaghetti with a sweet sauce and hot Italian sausage. Our friend received a large plate with a quarter of a plate of Lasagna but tasted good. We ask about the food and a manager came out and explained we received the right food. She took off a part of the bill mainly for my wife's food and the up charge for the Italian sausage. We will not returned.

Very good food. The Bread sticks are really good. I had the Manicotti. Got a lot of food for the price. My only complaint was that it was freezing cold in the place. The fan was on full speed, and when I asked if it could be turned down, I was told flat out NO. To call Kimmy. Whomever Kimmy is, I don't know. It gets hot in the kitchen. I understand to a point. Put a fan or two in the kitchen area if it's too hot. I wanted to sit and enjoy my food with my friends. My one friend is visiting from New Orleans, and I'm also from out of town. Instead, we hurried through our meal not eating all of it left. What a bummer! It was my first time at this restaurant, but I don't think I'll be back the next time I'm in Tecumseh visiting old friends.

Sal's has some of the best food I've had out to eat in a long time. We all ordered something different, everyone tried each other's food, and everyone liked it all. The food was amazing, portions were surprisingly large. The cheese bread is next level tasty. Service there was great and the staff was friendly. The music playing was mellow, no commercials, just good music. We'll be back and I will recommend Sal's to anyone.

As a former restaurant and nightclub manager and also a recent patron of Sal's, the following is my assessment of strengths and weaknesses. Strengths:

  1. The chicken marsala pasta is tasty; and the larger portion size is appreciated. 2)The side salad is substantial with plenty of cheese and decent Italian dressings.
  2. The servers are friendly. Concerns: a) The restaurant temperature is far too cold (required parkas to be worn on a 45 degree day) b) The music much too loud, making conversation difficult. c) The chicken parmesan is bland and the tomato sauce in the spaghetti is not cooked long enough to develop flavor. d) Rather than serving a bread basket with dinner, Sal's serves one piece of slightly stale garlic bread, and doesn't even provide a bread plate. e) The men's room is in bad shape. It is not very clean, and the sink is quite loose. f) The servers as noted above are friendly--but need to be more attentive. I had to get up to get grated cheese and pepper flakes from another table, because they were not brought to our table. I asked for bread plates, and the server brought one for me but not for my wife. g) The servers need to provide singles (dollar bills) for change, rather than just larger bills. I had to go back to the register to change a large bill to leave a tip, when singles should have been provided with the original change. I had the choice of leaving a 2.00 tip (all the singles given) or going back to the register. Providing singles also will increase servers income, as most people will just leave the couple bucks provided in the change rather than going to the register a...

Disappointing Shift – No Longer Allergy-Friendly ⭐ 1 star

It’s heartbreaking to write this, because Sal’s used to be one of our favorite local restaurants. Not even two years ago, we were thrilled to discover Sal’s because of how accommodating they were with food allergies. I remember the conversations we had with staff about how seriously they took dietary restrictions—especially since someone in their own family dealt with severe allergies. That level of care and understanding meant everything to us.

Unfortunately, something has changed. In recent visits, both dine-in and takeout, I’ve experienced a noticeable decline in their willingness to accommodate my egg allergy. Despite clearly expressing my concerns, the staff was dismissive, offered no alternative options, and made no effort to help me navigate the menu safely. It left me feeling not only excluded—but genuinely unsafe eating there.

In a time where food allergies are more common than ever, it’s disheartening that Sal’s now seems to make no effort toward inclusivity for people with dietary restrictions. There’s no allergen-friendly menu, no visible allergy policies, and no willingness to communicate or problem-solve.

Having a food allergy isn’t a lifestyle choice—it’s a medical necessity. And when restaurants ignore that, it sends a message that our safety and comfort don’t matter. I truly hope Sal’s reconsiders their approach and returns to the kind of welcoming, thoughtful service they once offered. Until then, I can’t recommend this restaurant to anyone with allergies—or anyone who dines with someone...

We used to love Sal's. Even after covid, we've been very understanding with the wait times and whatever else. The last year though they seem to constantly forget or mess up parts of our order. Everything from forgetting a whole dish, to forgetting all the sides that come with the dishes. Last night they forgot our sides... again. Usually we don't fuss and just forget about it. Last night I decided I was over being so forgiving and I called. The girl on the phone was very apologetic and wrote us down for a free appetizer next time we ordered. Cool. Then I realized my calzone had no cheese on it. It was late and after hours so I decided to wait til today. I call, first lady was nice, apologizes and gets another woman. Second woman tells me she asked the person who made it last night and they said that there was in fact cheese on it, and next time I should order extra cheese. We order for a family of 5, usually spend quite a bit of money on each order, AND leave a generous tip. If we ever decide to order from Sal's again, I'll be making sure to call every time they forget or mess something up from now on. Although, I don't know how much good that will do if they're just going to say they asked whoever made it, tell me I'm wrong, and offer zero...
