I recently visited Rubio’s Coastal Grill, drawn in by their promise of fresh, coastal-inspired flavors and a healthier take on fast-casual Mexican cuisine. While the overall experience had its highlights, there were a few areas that left something to be desired.
Ambiance & Cleanliness: The restaurant was clean and well-maintained, with a relaxed, beachy vibe that matched the “coastal” theme. The décor is casual yet inviting, and the staff at the counter were friendly and attentive. My order was taken quickly and efficiently, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time.
Food Quality & Flavor: I ordered the Coastal Trio, which included a grilled wild Mahi Mahi taco, a shrimp taco, and a classic fish taco, along with a side of chips and salsa. The flavors were undeniably fresh—the grilled seafood was nicely seasoned, and the tortillas had that soft, authentic feel you look for in a good taco joint. The accompanying chipotle sauce and salsa were well-balanced, adding just enough heat and zest.
Portion Size: The biggest downside to my visit was the portion size. The tacos, though flavorful, were quite small. Even with the trio, I didn’t feel fully satisfied. For a restaurant that markets itself as a filling lunch or dinner spot, the amount of food didn’t quite live up to expectations, especially considering the price point. The chips were also a smaller portion than I’ve come to expect from similar fast-casual chains.
Price vs. Value: This is where Rubio’s slightly missed the mark. While the quality of ingredients was commendable—and I understand the cost of sustainably sourced seafood is higher—I still felt that the portion-to-price ratio was a little off. It’s not overpriced for what it is, but it’s not exactly a great value either if you’re going in hungry.
Final Thoughts: Overall, Rubio’s Coastal Grill delivers on flavor and freshness, with a menu that feels lighter and more health-conscious than typical fast food. However, if you’re looking for a hearty meal or something to really fill you up, you might leave wanting more. It’s a great spot for a light lunch or a quick bite, but I’d recommend ordering an extra side or entrée if you’ve got...

The restaurant chain as a whole is wonderful. The food from today's order was tasty.
I am giving this restaurant location 1 star only because I have to give it an actual star.
This location is poorly ran.
The trash cans were over flowing during my most recent visit. But that was only the cherry on top of this visit.
I ordered $53 worth of food including TWO large sides of chips.
I asked for 15 large cups for salsa seeing as I have asked and gotten them in the past from this restaurant.
I feel 15 cups for salsa is a reasonable amount of salsas, I also needed the cups for limes and the onion and cilantro mix.
I was told it would be considered a catering order and that she would have to charge me for 2 catering sides of salsa. Each being $5 each. I then asked her it would be $10 for extra salsa? She then proceeded to only charge me for one. While handing me the cups she told me that she is the only one who will do it, next time I will have to pay $10 for extra salsa.
That was probably the last time I will going to this location.
The trash can was only taken care of after an older gentleman said something to...
Read moreCame here the other day and I was pleasantly surprised it was nice and well-stocked in the salsa bar area, everything was well organized, bathrooms are clean too... service is very friendly the only thing I would recommend as that they make sure their tables are well-balanced and cleaned not just wiped off.. tables were SUPER STICKY AND IN BALANCED.. .. the regular fish tacos were really good.. and they have a new chicken bowl combo for the kids which is priced a bit high probably better off charging $5 99 versus $6.99 seems like you can get a adult plate for the $6.99.. they have this really good lemonade and mango drink... I'm assuming they make everything fresh it took about 25 minutes to get our food our kiddos were pretty hungry it wasn't that busy when we went and so if you have time to wait a little bit longer than usual than your ok but for us kiddos were a bit impatient... but loved the food once...
