Three of us went to dinner here on a Saturday night. We saw the wait was going to be long but had put ourselves on the waitlist in advanced. We were excited to get sat and enjoy dinner since it was a longer of a wait. Our server Blake H. comes overs and asked if we had been there before and our response was its been awhile. He said okay and didn't give any information or a refresher on the menu or how things worked. He handed us the premium menu and asked if we wanted to upgrade to this. We said no and we would stick to the regular dinner menu. That's when his mood completely shifted - we understand that he probably wanted us to upgrade but that was our chose not to. He came back with our drinks and we placed orders for appetizers and he left. He came back later and we order quiet of bit of meats, we probably got less then half of what we ordered throughout the whole dinner. We still hadn't got our appetizers yet. I did a gentle reminder of just wanted to make sure those appetizers are in. He is completely disinterested and could care less. We can only assume again its from not upgrading the menu. Throughout the dinner our server did not give us drink refills or checked in our how everything was coming out or tasting. He came by once to ask if we wanted to put more meats in we said yes 2 orders of the steaks the #1. And what came out was the premium steaks.. We were confused but he was no where to be found. We assumed there was miscommunication and he updated our menu. Later in the dinner our grill needed to be changed but he was no where to be found. At this point we were over it and extremely disappointed in the whole experience. I saw a lady dressed up (wearing black slacks and a dark green button up, dark hair pulled back in a pontail- looked around mid-20s) I waived her down cause I assumed she was the manager I asked and she said yes. I told her about the poor experience and we were disappointment and that hopefully no other customers left the way we did - I mentioned about our waiters poor attitude/and inattentiveness . Her response was simple "Sorry to hear that" No mention of compensation which is fine. Then she left. We were ready to leave at this point. We waited for our server to come back so we could grab the check. Again he was no where to be found. I had to flag down the "manager" again and asked for the check. She didn't say anything but came back with the check. I reviewed the check and there was a charge on there for an alcoholic beverage we didn't order. I let her know and she was taken back and questioned me "You guys didn't' order it?" I said no and to please remove it. Her name tag was flipped over or I would have included it in this review. The server never came back to our table once after I originally flagged down the lady and let her know of the service. I am pissed bad service and now the manager questioning the bill. We paid and tipped (because we want to be fair) and walked out. While we were walking out someone from our group stopped and asked another server what the managers name was. A gentleman was upfront heard the question and said "Hi I'm the manager Giovani how can I help." We thought the manager was the girl that came and assisted us. Possibly there could have been 2..? We just got his name and ended up walked out. It wasn't worth the confutation. Just frustrating evening all around. A horrible server a can ruin the experience and sad the manager didn't do anything to make the...
Read moreAvoid this place unless you want food poisoning and poor service. Mari, a girl in all-black attire, with glasses, a ponytail, and Mexican, was the hostess, and her disorganized behavior caused repeated issues during my visit.
I went here on New Year's evening and made an online reservation through Yelp to ensure a table since I expected it to be busy. I was 15th in line, so I decided to browse nearby stores while waiting.
When I returned to check in, I noticed two customers talking with Mari. At first, I thought the customers were being rude to her, but later, I realized they were right. After Mari seated them, I asked her about the gift card special. She told me to wait while she got the manager, then pointed me out to him. I spoke with the manager, purchased the gift card, and reminded him to check me back in since I was next in line. At this point, Mari had already called my name multiple times and knew who I was.
Then, a group of four white people (two males and two females) came in without a reservation. Mari went to the back, returned to the hostess desk, and called my name. When I approached her, the group of four walked with her and were seated using my reservation. My family and I, who had been waiting patiently, were confused and upset. Fortunately, another customer pointed out that we were next, which forced Mari to correct her mistake, but she still allowed those people to sit using my name. Adding insult to injury, she had the audacity to ask me, "What's your name?" while finally putting me at a table on her screen.
When we finally got our table, the food service started off normal, but the wait times grew longer as the restaurant filled up. Some dishes, like the garlic, pickled items, and sweet meat, were either too old or poorly prepared. I rarely get food poisoning, but I felt sick after eating here. The bathrooms were another issue as they were clogged and unclean, and no one seemed to be attending to them.
Toward the end of our meal, I ordered one last dish and received the check. Mari came by and took my card to process payment, but instead of handling it promptly, she left it at the front desk and started checking in other customers. I tried to get her attention three times but was ignored. After waiting at least 15 minutes, I became super concerned that my information might be mishandled. I even saw her efficiently process another tableâs payment while mine sat unattended. When I asked her directly if she still had my card, she said she was about to ring it up. Her lack of focus and disregard for my time were infuriating.
Overall, Mariâs disorganized behavior and poor service caused repeated issues throughout my visit. From giving away my reservation to making me wait for my card unnecessarily, her actions were unacceptable. This role requires a level of professionalism and dedication that isnât being met. It may be best to re-evaluate her fit for the position as hostess.
I do not recommend this location. The service was terrible, the food made me sick, and the...
Read moreI want to preface this with: we have both worked in the service industry and customer service all our lives, so complaining like this isn't my style. But I just couldn't let this slide.
My fiancĂŠ and I dined in tonight and were severely disappointed. We were originally heading to a different kbbq restaurant, but hearing there was a 45 minute wait (my partner is diabetic and that wouldn't have worked for us, my bad for not making a reservation) , we decided to head to Gen since we were only 2 miles away. We normally go to the chandler boulevard location and have wonderful experiences every time.
This location, however, was like a culture shock. we knew it was busy so we tried to take everything in stride. But when multiple little things add up , it's hard
Actual review time: 1: our drinks came out after the first round of meat was brought to us, AND we had to ask. Our server also informed us that half the things we ordered, they were out of. No biggie, we'll just order other things we were going to order. He said he'd give us a list of what was 86'd but never did. 2: second round of ordering, more things didn't show up. Assumed they were out but was never told. 3: other tables meats were delivered to us, this happened 2 times. First time we told the waiter, he had attitude (the first two items were things we had previously ordered so we understand it could've been seen as we were just being difficult.) 4: we had ordered a steak on the second round of ordering, but never received scissors at the beginning of the meal, so we had to ask for those. 15 minutes after the steak was done cooking, to which our server responded "working on it." And gave me the dullest pair of scissors I've ever used (not his fault, just annoying) 5: the floor manager checked on both tables surrounding us, but never us, making me think the waiter warned him we were difficult, when in reality, we just wanted our things we had asked for, but wound up having to ask multiple times for. 6: the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting.
It was upsetting that the quickest service we got was when our check was dropped off and picked up within 5 minutes. I don't know if our server was having a bad night(which I totally understand) or whatever, but if you're going to serve my food on chipped plates , not give me the proper tools to eat, not tell me when things are out or just plain forgetting things, please don't act annoyed or like my fiancĂŠ and I are the problem and slowly become more deadpan when we're just asking for what we ordered in the first place. I hate feeling like a burden, but tonight really made me feel like I was one of the pain in the butt customers I hate dealing with. I firmly believe tipping should be based on total of the check and not performance, but tonight, I had to forego that. And I hate that, because I also make tips at my job.
There were more things, but this is already a novel.
Won't be returning to this location. I'll stick to the...
