It was a cool experience! I've never had Yunnan Crossing the Bridge rice noodle soup until now. It was quite enjoyable.
We had a little bit of a slow start. We arrived at 11:00 am (opening time) and pretty much picked our own table. No one was at the counter to greet us. Most likely because they were busy getting ready for the lunch service. It gave us time to look over the menu. The menu wasn't too terribly complicated. There are 5 basic broth flavors. The non-spicy options are original, tomato, and pickled pepper broth. The spicy options are numbing Sichuan peppercorn and spicy broth. I originally wanted to try the Sichuan peppercorn, but I wasn't sure what numbing meant at the time. Now I know that it refers to the tingling sensation you get with that particular spice. I would love to try a sample of it one day. Instead, I played it safe by getting the pickled pepper broth. It turned out to be a great choice along with the fatty beef and accompaniments.
Everything was presented beautifully. You get your tray, rice noodles, and boiling hot broth delivered to your table. The host added the quail egg first, then the meat and veggies. He did that so well. I would have probably splashed the broth all over myself. It doesn't take long for it to cook and blend together. The fatty beef was very good. I really liked that quail egg. I've had it at other restaurants and didn't like it. This one tasted great! The broth wasn't salty, and the pickled pepper broth (I think a chicken base) was actually quite good. I could taste the pickled pepper. It was a fresh taste. Yes, very simple but also very satisfying. I'd definitely get the same rice noodle soup again. It had tofu skin, green scallions, wood ear mushrooms, and all kinds of interesting flavors. I'm also thankful for the other Yelp reviews and tips. I didn't add the lettuce (to keep it from tasting like romaine). The choice of fatty beef and the selection of the pickled pepper broth worked out in my favor. It definitely suited my taste buds.
I will definitely go back to try the Sichuan peppercorn broth. I just need to be in the...
Read moreI am an avid Asian food lover and appreciate the variety of options at this resturaunt. I came here with my mother and sibling and were faced with a mostly picture less menu but found ourselves some simple things to eat as first-timers.
The sweet and sour chicken was good. The jasmine white rice as a side was nice and the sauce was flavorful and sweet. I also ordered beef with Broccoli and fried rice, and got a soy egg. The fried rice was my favorite and had a variety of small vegetables and was spiced deliciously. I mixed my soy egg with it and finished my visit with a full belly.
I was disappointed with the broccoli beef as it was a mild flavour that didn't really add to the dish in terms of excitement ; it felt like something I could eat while hungry but it's not something I'd crave.
Considering this is a noodle resturaunt, I think you should come here to get noodles, as my opinion lies insignificant to the vast selection of noodle soups they offer here with creative and colorful display. Same reason you don't get dinner at a primarily breakfast centered restaurant ; breakfast is their specialty, not dinner.
All in all, this was an OK visit, for someone who didn't get noodles. I think it is worth visiting...
Read moreCame back 2 years later and still disappointed. I ordered shrimp fried rice and house fried rice that has a combination of shrimp, beef, and chicken. The shrimp was not deveined properly and under cooked. The egg rolls were greasy and the fried chicken wings had hair/feathers on them. I have learned my lesson,,there will DEFINITELY be no returning EVER!!!I specifically asked the young lady did they deveined their shrimp in the shrimp fried rice. She told me yes so I ordered the shrimp fried rice, when I got home they shrimp were only partially deveined. The tail part was not. They should have taken the tail end off and deveined that as well. I had to devein them before I could finish eating which ruined the flow of my meal. It was outside of that prepared well and very tasty. I probably wouldnât return because they were not honest with me. The portion size could have been better...
