Went for a scenic drive on HWY 507 and saw this hole-in-the-wall restaruant in Tenino, WA and I was not disappointed in stopping on a whim. I knew that this place was authentic from the moment I walked in and saw a 40oz "Caguama" (40oz Corona) on the bar and their awesome selection of Mexican spirits. Then, I opened the menu and saw entrees that very few Mexican restaurants would dare put on their menu, but Los Compadres did and they delivered! I have not seen a "Torta Ahogada" (a VERY regional dish of Guadalajara, Jalisco consisting of a Carnitas Sandwich drenched in traditional spicy red salsa) on a menu in over a decade and I knew I had to try it. As I bit into this delicious torta, I was transported to the streets of Guadalajara Mexico, where street vendors compete on who has the best "ahogada" in the region. My date had the "Molcajete" (a large pestle) filled with "Cielo, Mar, y Tierra" (Sky, Sea, and Land) meats drowned in a savory salsa verde. The pestle is filled with beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, and nopales in a very traditional green salsa. The nopales (Mexican cactus, same as the one on the flag) were a very rare surprise, since very few Mexican chefs dare to cook with it, since it can be "too regional" for the American palette. No doubt, this place is a diamond in the rough that can be rural Washington towns. It is good to see that places like these can exist in such a small country setting. A definite stop in...
Read moreI ordered a chili rellano for my dinner. I only eat the one with the omlete like recipe. I asked the male waiter how they make there's. He said they dip the chili in a batter. I said, "no thank you I dislike them made that way. I only want the egg omelet type". He assured me they can make it the way I like them, so I agreed to order the right recipe. Meantime, I ordered guacamole as a side order. Soon he comes with a dish of a puffy batter dipped rellano. I was not happy and said this is exactly what I don't want. I took my fork and inspected it saying to him this is not an egg omelet style. He asked if I wanted to see the menu and I said no I'm so disappointed I'll just eat my guacamole. When I finished I went to the front to pay and asked the cashier what I owed them. She said $11 and some cents. I looked up and said, boy that's expensive guacamole." She said , "You sre required to order a meal off the menu or you pay for the chips and salsa." I went ahead and paid then left. There was no apology for serving me what they wanted when I specifically told the waiter what I wanted. Rude people. I got to thinking... I never saw ANYTHING that said I had to order something I didn't want when they served me the wrong meal or pay for the chips. Had I known that I would have took home my nearly full basket of chips!...
Read moreDon't go to this place. The guy who always does the service needs to learn how to give good service he honestly sucks. When we got there he asked where we wanted to sit and told him table. Then we sat down and was given our waters. But here's the thing we have baby and they failed to ask if we needed seat for the baby. So we still sat there waiting. Approximately 10 mins went by and they asked for what drinks we wanted. He was completely rude about it. We told him what we wanted and still no seat and felt disrespected. He treated us like we were an inconvenience. We finally asked for a refill for the drinks, salsa, chips, and the baby seat. He walked off without acknowledging us. When he gave us the salsa he slammed the mushroom stuff on the table. The rest of the time he treated us worst. I miss the old place because the service was way better. This is honestly not the first time having issues with both this place and this server. We tried giving this place the benefit of the doubt but we have finally given up. I really wish this was false but it's not. The last business did such a good job and had great memories of this place but the new business...
