Unprepared After walking in we knew that it was going to be a bit of a wait. No one welcomed us to get on a list, we found it and wrote our own name down. During our hour long wait they seated smaller groups that arrived after us, we are a group of 4. We had to stop a waitress at one point to ask what the wait time was which was completely inaccurate. They have no seating for the people waiting, kids were lying on the floor against the walls in the hallway. We waited so long we felt we couldn’t go to another place, you’re too far in to turn back. The little old lady was the only one that apologized and appreciated the ridiculous wait we had. Most of the other waitresses seemed uncaring. As soon as we sat down they asked what we wanted to order as if they had a menu posted or were offered one during our extended wait. We waited over 30 mins for our food and not once did they come over to refill our water or coffee. One of the waitress handed me my plate over my son’s head instead of using the front of the table. None of the waitresses are wearing name tags. My husband and kids liked their food, french toast, meat and potatoes. I felt that my omelette was greasy and the cheese was too stringy and difficult to cut or take a bite. All the condiments were at the...
Read moreI visit the Sandstone twice a week on average for breakfast, it is awesome. I have been having breakfast for over 2 years. Super excited about expansion to dinner. Not so much anymore. We often need to stay in our lane until we learn to pass. Two visits in a week, first one good enough to invite our weekly dinner friends. Nothing special on first visit. Food was adequate, service was fantastic and fun. Second visit disappointing enough to delete Sandstone Cafe from our weekly outings. Food was mediocre at best. We had braised pork and roasted chicken, both below what we have experienced elsewhere. Our food came out of kitchen in parts, so we went out with friends, but did not eat with them. They watched us eat, we watched them eat. Server gave us desserts (cheesecake) as a sorry bout that and it was the worst ever, for reals. I will not stop having breakfast every week, but things will need to change before I go back for dinner or invite friends. I rest assured they will...
Read moreIf you are looking for a place to eat where you can spend your good money on SO-SO food and LOUSY service, then the Sandstone Cafe in Tenino is the place. A few examples: If you order coffee, there’s a good chance you will not be offered a refill; if you order food prepared a certain way (i.e. eggs poached hard, there’s a good chance you will get they runny; if you order bacon crisp, good luck with that; if you order a specific quantity of food (i.e. 2 French toast/4 pieces of bacon) don’t be surprised if you get something different than what you ordered; if you send food back to have it cooked as originally requested, you may not see it again. Not sure if it’s a problem with finding good help or if this place just plain doesn’t care about the level of service (more appropriately, lack of) it provides. In either case, will not be dining here in the future and certainly will not recommend it as a place to...
