This place is a gem. An old sandstone quarry that was in operation up to the turn of the 20th century, when concrete became more affordable. Since it was no longer in use, they didn't have to fight with keeping the quarry drained due to a freshwater spring. In the '50s it was turned into an unofficial swimming hole. Now you can use it almost every day of the summer. For the low price of $6 for out of town residents, the small little swimming hole with a depth of 60 plus feet is great for those I can swim. It has diving board, the deep swimming area, both of which require you to pass a swim test, and a little kid shallow area made on the side with a few little water feature things to play with. Outside drinks and food and chairs are allowed. Some snacks are surged on site. Bathrooms are on site as well. It was not crowded when we showed up and it was an 80 plus degree day. Outside of the swimming area is a full park and picnic pavilion. There is also a small museum to look at. When you're in the swim area you can see some of the old sandstone quarried bricks that were never shipped out stacked up on the side, then there was a bunch of people playing on these even though it seemed to be locked up. I think you can get to it from the Parkside.Would definitely consider...
Read moreUpdate: Some of the playground equipment was damaged by a fallen tree a year ago. The equipment is unsafe for children to play on. It was partitioned off with construction fencing for a short time but most of that has fallen off or been ripped off and the city refuses to put it back up after being made aware of the issue. This makes it impossible to take kids to the park to use the other equipment without them trying to go on the damaged playset. The mayor said that the playset was getting fixed soon but that was said 6 months ago. So who knows when it will actually happen. I hope the playset gets fixed or replaced soon because I miss being able to take my children to the local park.
Also the city pool has been closed for two years now. 1st year was because of covid which I understand but this last year the many different reasons never reasonable (not enough water (well the why are we approving plans for a 400 home subdevelopment?). I hope the pool opens again this summer or we get a new mayor that can concentrate on keeping his city running right instead of dealing with all his personal issues and problems from him appointing his friends to city offices.
Old review: Very well taken care of park. Play ground, trails, picnic tables, baseball fields, city pool,...
Read moreHere's my professional review. *Love the shallow pool *Ever heard of grass? Please plant some at the shallow pool dirt area! *Love that there are diving boards for my Lincoln boy to enjoy for hours. *Please put a cone in front of that huge black hose that I tripped on 3 times, my friend tripped on and countless of others. *Love that the swimming test rules are easier here then at Long Lake *I do NOT like that kids with life jackets aren't allowed in the big main swimming pool. What the heck is up with the two toilets next to each other without any divider?? Yes stranger, I'd love to pee with you! What should we talk about? "How are you today? "I ate beans for lunch, sorry!" I know they can't control the temp of the pool but wow, that is some freezing water in the deep pool. $5 is too pricey for joint toilets, freezing water, dirt to sit on near the shallow pool when th covered area is full. *Love the waterfall, stone...
