I'm about to shut down the barbecue hunt down!!! I've had barbecue all over the United States came to find for 25 years (Nashville Tennessee) the best pitmaster barbecue at that time! we stumbled on a small little barbecue place in (Clyde Texas) I thought Nashville was the only place that can get down on 🤠 BBQ I thought my barbecue journey was just going to be a tear so many so-called BBQ pitmasters!!!!!!!!!! Until my wife and I took on a road trip to Willis Texas to have a church revival and baptism hundreds of people with (Kayla Gabbard).. As we approached our end of the day we entered a town called (Terrell Texas) we stumbled upon a building that which it looked as if it was ready for retirement we weren't sure if this was really the barbecue place called (Hickory Root BBQ) but don't be fooled by the old looking building once you pass through the doors it's as if you step back in time.. I would have never guessed such a pleasant atmosphere inside the employees are astronomical, ambitious, conscientious but there was one person in there named (Dale the BBQ Pitmaster) now I can honestly say this is the best barbecue we have had eaten anywhere in in this great country pleases me to know that Dale BBQ pitmaster with great passion has dedicated his life to be the best barbecue that he can give his family and friends. I highly recommend you put all your family in your car and take a long road trip to this nice little town called Terrell Texas and visit this great establishment... Hickory Roots BBQ @ 705 East Moore avenue Terrell Texas...... I fail to say such an outstanding establishment you think the owner would put a sign out front to inform potential customers this is a real barbecue establishment not a closed down flea market to the owner of this establishment do yourself a favor advertise your business with a big sign fact is food is great I would hate to see this business close over lack of customers due to the owners negligent of advertisement piece of information,,, your business does not fail you, you fail your business. God bless stay right and eat barbecue...
Read moreI came from Dallas to experience small town barbeque and chose this restaurant because of the favorable reviews. After having a meal there I now see the less favorable reviews. I was hopeful for a fun and relaxing eating experience. But that was not to be.
When I walked up to give my order to the two women I was just stared at blankly. I asked if they were now serving and once again I was just starred at. It was confusing. Even the man slicing the meat had a hostile stare. So I went ahead and asked if the brisket was lean. The woman with such an attitude said something like "yeah if you want it". I put my order in and sat down. I saw three women sitting at a table eating. I was the only other person in the dining area besides them. After waiting for quite a while I inquired about my food. They brought me fatty brisket with two sides. The green beans were fine but the BBQ beans were too sweet. Long story short, after talking to the owner I was given a refund. I know this review will get an apology but why not focus upon retraining the three employees who wanted nothing to do with this customer? I was so hopeful for a enjoyable experience in Terrell for some good BBQ. I will never return. I was not welcomed. It felt like I had stepped into the twilight zone. Oh btw, I was told that the manager was the woman who just starred at me when putting my order in. I...
Read moreFood was terrific. Even the buns and the french fries had that special homemade taste that I can't even describe. The jalapeno sausage and sliced brisket were tender and smokey. The mashed potatoes are that same homemade style with the skins included. Barbeque beans had a kick to them. And nothing needed additional salt or other seasoning, including the fries. But while the food is 5 star, the service and the atmosphere are 3 star. This is mid October and 80 degrees outside, yet it felt over 90 degrees inside. Almost unbearably hot which ruins the dining experience. And OMG are they slow. The woman at the register acts like she's never run the thing before, hunting and pecking around for 5 minutes per item she's entering. Took 10 minutes for her to enter 2 BBQ plates. The old white guy cooking was belittling a young black girl to the point I felt uneasy for her. And it took forever to get the food. If the food wasn't so dang good, I might not ever come back. As it stands, from now on, I'll just order ahead of time, pick it up, and eat the...
