Harrows Chicken Pies — Restaurant in Tewksbury

We have ordered from Harrows several times and never had an issue.. Until now... I bought a fresh pie that I was not going to eat within 2 days, so I wrapped it tightly in glad wrap in put it I the freezer. I cooked it tonight and it smelled delicious as always. My husband and I couldn't wait to eat it. As my husband and I began eating it we both stopped, saying it was NOT right. Everything about the color and smell about the pie was ok, but the flavor was TERRIBLE. When I called she told me I didn't freeze ot right and I was tasting freezer burn so it was my fault. I have frozen these before and have NEVER had this issue. I have also tasted freezer burn on icecream, and this is NOT what we believe to be freezer burn. She offered me nothing, other than "well, its freezer burn.." We will NOT be coming back, and I have many friends/family that I know will not either!

We did a takeout on Saturday of a hot pie and had it for dinner when we got home (after reheating a bit as we are 30 mins away). Despite sharing our surname, this was our first visit.

I would not say it is better than my wife's homemade chicken pie, but it is definitely an excellent chicken pie. Large pieces of white meat chicken, excellent crust, tasty gravy with potatoes and carrots.

I also picked up a pint of squash to balance or my meal a bit better. The squash was very fresh tasting and overall quite good, but a little runny. I put it in a bowl instead of on my plate.

If you are looking for some simple, home-style, comfort food, I would definitely recommend them. ...

I'm only now getting around to finally trying Harrows chicken pie after hearing about them for years on a local foodie TV show. The chicken pies are great with a delicious perfect crust and big chunks of chicken. The sauce component was a nice balance of flavor not too salty. I really wanted to love the corn bread but I honestly didn't, it had a bitter flavor, maybe it doesn't contain sugar like some corn bread, but that is my only complaint. The service was pleasant. Just know that it's not a sit down and eat kind of place. Call one hour ahead to pick up hot food to take home or stop in and buy a frozen pie to bake yourself later.
