TexMex and Mexican food are in great abundance in a city such as Houston, and this is why you need to shop around a little, select a group of favorites, and generally stick with them when you want an agreeable TexMex meal. One of my regular restaurants when I’m in need of a TexMex fix is Los Gallitos Mexican Café.
This restaurant serves much of the usual food you expect to find in a restaurant such as this. Fajitas, enchiladas with different meats and cheese, tacos, chalupas, and other like foods form the bulk of the menu. Most entrees come with the usual sides of Spanish rice and refried beans, but they have a few other options also. The food isn’t incredible, but it is good and I haven’t been disappointed with a meal yet.
One of the top reasons to visit Los Gallitos Mexican Café isn’t the food, but rather the drinks. The happy hours serve drinks at excellent prices and they make a visit worthwhile. The margaritas are not incredible by any stretch, but they are good and easily worth the prices during these specials. The beer selection here isn’t the best, so it’s margaritas or no adult beverage for me.
Service at Los Gallitos Mexican Café isn’t very consistent and this is one issue I have with this restaurant location. They seem to have their act together on some days, but then others, they make simple mistakes like forgetting to provide the correct number of sets of utensils or not supplying enough napkins. Yes, they will quickly bring you what you need, but they need to do better at making sure the basics are in place before they serve you.
Mexican and TexMex restaurants in Houston number in the thousands. I have my set of favorites and Los Gallitos Mexican Café is one of them. The food is agreeable, the happy hour margarita deals are excellent, and the overall vibe spells Mexico. It adds up to restaurant that belongs...
Read moreI am currently visiting from a different state and, unfortunately, was welcomed with discrimination against my non-verbal autistic brother. My mother, who has been my brother's caregiver since he was diagnosed with autism and has never had the ability to do things that others can. My mother took him to the restroom since he ASL that he had to use the restroom. She took him to the bathroom and came across a worker who stated; "The man's restroom is over there. Take him there." My mother stayed quiet. Up until she met her at the front entrance and told her what she said was very hurtful and rude, she said she'd be understandable if he was alone and accidentally came across the women restroom, however she was visibly behind him therefore she had no reason to exchange words with her. I'm very disappointed that houston has these types of issues. As I have always lived in North Carolina for up to 40 years and never had this issue, i was always supported and welcomed. I was told the worker was sent home, I couldn't see her nor did I see her leave. However I was given a discount and offered a free dessert. But to receive this type of disgusting and ignorant attitude had taken my appetite. It was very uncalled for. However, I would like to give it to the manager who was able to comprehend the situation and did the best he could. Props to him, but as for the employee, shame on you, and next time, look before you even speak, show...

The food was absolutely excellent, and every dish I tried was a hit. I particularly enjoyed the fish tacos and the fried shrimp – they were cooked to perfection and incredibly flavorful. The menu offers a great variety, and it's fantastic to see thoughtful options available, including vegetarian dishes, which is a huge plus. Everything tasted fresh and authentic, leaving me completely satisfied.
