I want to like this place so badly. It’s not far from my house and my wife and I are justing dying to have a local sports bar with good pizza and beer where we can dump our life’s savings every week.
Unfortunately, it’s tough to justify going to The Bull Pizza Co. The owner desperately needs someone who understands how to operationalize a restaurant and properly train its staff for customer service and hospitality.
Everything here is overpriced and nothing here is unique or better than the chef quality food you can find around Austin. The “chef-inspired” plates here are not good and cost you upwards of $30-$40. The pizza here is mostly bad, although the Bull Meat Pie is OK. Not exactly a “meat pie” though, as they seriously skimp on the toppings. The food is uninspired and you can tell the people cooking it really don’t care about their work. We ordered a caprese salad and it was literally a tomato with its guts carved out with the hard part of a burrata ball and CANNED peaches. Not joking. The cocktails here are also unbalanced and uninspired. You can tell this place is lacking in expertise across the board. They also struggle with consistency, mightily.
The service here is very slow and nobody seems to want to see you when you walk in. Seriously, we’ve been here like 6 times and nobody smiles or makes eye contact unless you force them to. It’s so weird. It also seems like there are some underaged kids working here, and they act like it. Bartenders don’t smile, don’t proactively see how you’re doing, recommend refills/upsells, or even attempt at any friendly banter. It’s awkward, and the house music just stops playing at random times and makes it even more awkward.
I get the sense that the lack of hospitality and most issues here stem from the owner, who, to be honest, seems like he’s on mushrooms or something every time we see him. He doesn’t smile and even ignored me when I tried to have some banter with him on two different occasions. He seems completely aloof and I’ve noticed he tends to randomly pop in on our dining experience in some sort of awkward way, out of place, and when he takes our order he seems to forget to put it in or communicate it to our server/bartender. Seriously, every time. Anyway, I don't mean to personally attack the guy, but his demeanor is not well-suited for service and hospitality, and it absolutely trickles down to his staff. He doesn’t appear to know what he’s doing and would be better suited hiring a restauranteur who better understands the business.
One other thing… What’s with your phone? Nobody answers 99% of the time, and you have a voicemail box that hasn’t been set up.
It all just feels very bush league here and is disappointing. I would LOVE for this place to improve and am happy to pay the Steiner Ranch luxury tax for mediocre food if the service and ambience improve. Take our...

We came here tonight as a family of four, and were sat at a table along the back window. Our waiter- who was lovely- forgot three times to bring sodas for my children after being politely reminded- and they were out of the two kinds of wine I ordered. They got my husband’s “create your own pizza” incorrect THREE TIMES which created a delay in his meal being brought to the table. These are all things that can happen at a restaurant that is staffed by younger adults… we completely understand that and didn’t say anything at all. We’ve eaten here many times (both old AND new management) and it’s one of our favorite places to grab a quick dinner as a family.
We were winding down our meal, and the staff decided to sit a table of 16 girls (which continued to grow!) at a table for 6 right next to us. A woman was squeezed between our table and theirs and her hair was IN my pizza. The manager came over to our table- I recognized him as such since I have had friendly conversations with him before. I told him that it’s unfair to seat this table so close to ours- since we were seated first and still finishing our meal. At this point, I couldn’t even hear my family talking anymore because of the noise from the table next to us. The manager offered to shift our table down- which I offered to help shift FOR him. I was informed that he preferred to do it on his own because the tables apparently have a mind of their own. I was THEN informed that he was told that we seated ourselves (which is completely not true and I called him out on this, because I don’t appreciate being called a liar- and I told him exactly which of his staff HAD seated us) and I was then told that I was “patronizing” him. And then he told me to “take your family and get out of my restaurant and never come back.” We left immediately- leaving unfinished food AND drinks on our table.
Whoever is running this restaurant treated me in the most disrespectful and unprofessional manor- unlike anything I have EVER experienced in ANY situation I’ve ever been in. Imagine having to explain this to my children on the ride home!
As a manager- or even just an human- you don’t treat people like this. But when people are local, loyal, PAYING customers, it makes it even worse- and that much more disrespectful. And to think he acted this way in front of my children is an absolute embarrassment for any manager in ANY career space.
Our family will never be returning- and I’ll absolutely talk loudly, openly and honestly about the disrespectful treatment from the management in...
Read moreMy sister and I were trying to order take out from here, and we called no less than 5 times between our two different phone numbers. No one answered. So I tried to quickly to place the order online, however after placing the order, it had problems accepting the credit card. So my sister decided she would drive up there herself to place the order. After arriving, she was able to place the order and let them know that she would be right back to pick it up. Also she used the same card we tried using on the website and had no issues with it charging her card in person. She went to go get gas, and she brought her elderly dog with her as well so she informed them at the front desk that she would need to wait in her vehicle when she returned to not leave her dog in the car for too long. 30 minutes goes by from the time she placed the order, to the time it took for them to bring the food out. The guy who brought her the food told her that apparently the food had been ready for quite some time, but they were too busy to bring it out.
She takes the food and comes home, and while I was unpacking the food, realized that some items were missing. I told her to call them. When we called, they seemed incredibly confused and had to explain the same thing in multiple different way for them to understand simply “I did not get all of my food.”
I told her to tell them to talk to a manager, and to put us on hold. They did not put us on hold, the just sat the phone down so we heard their entire conversation. When they picked the phone back up, we clarified that the information they had wasn’t exactly as we stated. They said they would issue a refund for the amount of the missing item, and that was all. I told my sister to call them back the next day to ensure that it was all handled, considering they didn’t seem confident in any part of this conversation.
Called back the next day, they looked it up and ensured us that the refund had been processed.
The food itself was great, though the lemon rind on the lemon prosciutto pizza was very strange, all the food that we did receive was really good. The brussel sprouts, the pizza, all great.
My negative part of this review is the lack of customer service that came with this restaurant. Please answer your phone. Please educate your staff on how to operate said phones. Please educate your management on how to communicate properly with guests. And please run food as soon as it comes up in the window. No reason this entire situation took about 1.5 hours...
