I was recently down in Thibodaux and had no idea where to go, but a Nicholls graduate recommended we try Flanagan's.
I have a feeling that I if I lived in the area, I would spend a good amount of time at this restaurant/bar. Not because it was amazing, but because it was better than your average casual dining chain.
The beer choices were much better than I would have expected, but there were no draft options. They did have Abita Amber for $4, so that's what I ordered.
Besides the beer, our table also sampled the food. We had what ended up being the largest mozzarella sticks I have ever seen. Imagine two or three regular sized sticks fused into one giant one. An order was more than enough for our table.
Their version of a cheeseburger was pretty standard. It was good, but didn't blow me away. Unlike most national chain restaurants, we were able to have our burgers cooked to order. I did appreciate that since cooking a burger medium well may be safe, but it ruins the burger.
Service was just OK. Our server was very friendly, but despite the restaurant being very slow, our server was not as attentive as I would have liked.
In the end, I did like Flanagan's. It is quite similar in style to the national casual dining chains, but with a South Louisiana flair that...
Read moreI use to eat at Flanagan's a few times a year but each time I do I end up regretting it. We went on 11/3 around noon for the brunch/live music. The food was awful and expensive. I ordered the "jumbo" shrimp and cheese grits with fresh fruit. What I got was 4 tiny shrimp with greasy grits and 1 blueberry, 1 grape, 1 small cube of mango, and 1 puny chunk of pineapple (no, I'm not kidding). The so called hash browns were simply little squares of cold bland potatoes. When I asked for salsa to add some flavor, I was charged extra. When I commented on the tiny shrimp not being jumbo, the waitress brought me 3 more tiny shrimp. My friend ordered an omelet with "hash browns" and he was equally unimpressed. This was a $60 mistake. We could have spent $20 elsewhere and had a tasty meal. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the service was fair and the music was fairly entertaining, although i did leave a tip in the musician's jar which added cost to this...
Read moreSo, I've been eating at Flanagan's for decades. It's our go to restaurant for family get togethers. Over the last year or so it has progressively gotten disappointing. The portions get smaller , the quantity of quality ingredients decreases. I think today will be our last visit for awhile. Apparently, when you order a bowl of gumbo, they bring out a boal with like 2 scoops of rice and poor a cup of gumbo in it. I understand the concept, you're getting more gumbo bc the rice isn't in the cup, but that just seems very wrong to me. It's a pretty significant price jump for the bowl....you would expect much more than just a cup of gumbo. Not only that. The seafood gumbo had hardly any crab in it. It was mostly shrimp. Idk, just really disappointed bc we all loved the place and just cannot justify the cost with the quality...
