A regular hangout for area people where the older generation of seniors 70+ go to play mahjong or other table games I don't know the name of so it can be loud. Waitress & owner call you sweety. I dislike that immensely. Been there multiple times because it's home cooking and cozy. I want this place to be a 5 star restaurant so I will keep going back. Hot. Food: fried chicken over fried. Garlic bread burnt. Spaghetti was bland. Overall, large menu $$-$$+. I went another day and had the hot beef open face meal. I loved it. this is the homey feel good food I knew they had. Although they served 2 slices of white bread, it was a thicker slice with more body than wonder bread so it was a nice edible holder of beef which was thinly sliced but yummy. I chose homemade mashed potatoes that was chunky and graced with brown gravy like the beef. Yummy also. The second side were green beans that looked fresh. They were yummy too. They were in a butter sauce. Like I said...home cooking, just what I have been looking for in a restaurant. So, I increased the rating to 4 stars. Horrible parking. You have to watch out for other cars coming in or going out. It's tight parking close to the driveways and everyone wants to park in front by the restaurant entrance. I am not sure if it's handicap accessible. I don't remember if there is a ramp. Being an area favorite doesn't make it good. You have to try the menu and see. Two steps above McDonalds with better food and a more relaxed atmosphere.than the Greek restaurant up the street. It's 2 steps above any chain restaurant. Over all if you can put up with being called sweety, and the occasional loud bustle, the menu is large, the food can be good, every chef has a bad day, it's worth trying. I think it's a good first date, or meet up with friends or family place. Just watch out...
Read moreThis establishment was recommended by others for us to visit while in Mequon. We arrived on a very busy Saturday night. Patrons near us shared that it usually isn't this busy with long food wait times. The appetizers we ordered were great and hot. I definitely suggest ordering the cheese balls(I can't remember the menu name). The ribs were okay. The sour cream potato wedges were just okay. I wasn't excited about the pizza I accidently ordered. I thought I had ordered a deep dish chicago style pizza and received a thin crust pizza. It didn't taste very good plus came warm not hot to our table. I did express to the waitress, Amanda, that this isn't what I thought I ordered. I ate a slice then asked for dressing to put on the pizza to mask the taste. Needless to say the dressing never came. Amanda over all was not very friendly or personable. I am assuming she was having a bad day. Needless to say they had no problem removing the price of the pizza from our tab. I would recommend to others visiting the Mequon area to try this restaurant on a slow day not busy. I have a feeling that if we went on a slower paced time frame our long wait for our meals, the unfriendly service from our waitress and the willingness to offer a replacement of the pizza I didnt mean to order rather than excuses as to why I got what I got would have never taken place. While there I met Heidi who had outrageously amazing customer service and was very friendly. I also witnessed Chuck mingling with guest and watched him as he showed a deep desire to build relationship with people he had never met. I also witnessed other wait staff who had a bubbly personality that our waitress lacked. With all that said...
Read moreI would never eat here again unless I had a coupon to eat for free, and I had no money to buy food for the house. There is only one good server, and she has been there since I was a kid. As employees, they didn't seem interested in building rapport with customer's ( especially if you're not a regular), but rather would prefer to hide near the soda machine. One example I noticed right away is when you walk in, no one walks you to your table, instead you are instructed to go sit at an open table. I actually asked one of the server's why they don't attempt to walk you to tables, and she said this is how we've been doing it for 26 years. She was maybe 26 years old, and I had to chuckle. She also stated that her tips were good enough? When did we start talking about money? This is the same server that had to get me a new cup of soda, because the first one had something floating in it. The second cup she brought me had food stuck to the inside of it, and the third one...let's just say I never drank it.
The quality of food has gone down from years past, and typically the owner Chuck has to run to Piggly Wiggly because of frequently running out of food. He also never said "hi, how are you". Instead walked past me several times, and didn't say a word. I don't see this restaurant lasting another 5 years with the way it operates, and the quality of the experience. It used to be a place where you could take your family. Now it's a place where you would be embarrassed to take your family. I had to rank it with "1 Star" otherwise this wouldn't allow me to post. If I could, I would have given this place a 1/2...
