This place has strayed far from what it used to be. Back when the original owners used to make the icecream it was phenomenal. Then the grandkids (I believe) took over it started going downhill fast. It was no longer homemade icecream and the taste wasn't the same. However I won't be going back for a total different reason. Over the summer my wife and I took our eight year old daughter and her friend there for some icecream after a long day at the beach. My daughter has a purse that she keeps a huge collection of business cards in. She loves collecting them and see no harm in that. Anyhow she grabbed a card that was sitting on the counter that was setup like a display. My wife and I both thought the same that she was grabbing a business card. It turned out that they were gift cards and the girl at the register quickly scolded her and told her to put it back. We told her what our daughter does and we both thought they were business cards. She proceeded to act like she was stealing and I even mentioned how can someone steal a empty gift card. It was crowded that evening so we let it go and got our icecream then went home. Only reason I'm writing this is because on the way home my daughter kept mentioning of how embarrassed she was and I kept telling her it's okay and that she didn't do anything wrong. I was going to write this a few months ago and as time went on I've forgotten about this. Yesterday while I was at a store with my daughter she was very hesitant about taking a business card and asked the cashier acting really scared. I asked her what was going on and she mentioned this incident at Dormans. That's when I realized that she was traumatized by that incident. Something so innocent and she really enjoyed collecting has made her think she did something wrong. Next time something like this happens I hope the cashier explains to the child what a gift card is instead of treating them...
Read moreAntagonistic for people with food allergies. I'm sure this place is great for most people, but skip it if you have food allergies. After my conscientious child mentioned she has a peanut allergy while ordering, we were told by the 17-year-old manager that we were only allowed to get soft serve. My husband explained that it was fine as long as they rinsed off the scoop before they scooped hers (we understand our risk and the relatively mild degree of her particular allergy). Instead of trusting us to choose this risk for ourselves, the staff insisted they would only give us soft serve. It seems they are erring on the side of protecting themselves from liability at the risk of turning away a minority of customers. Strangely, we had much friendlier service at the "corporate" DQ right down the road, where they immediately accommodated our needs. Sweet service and covered picnic tables to...
Read moreNot being from the area this was a spontaneous visit. As I passed the location, I inquired to the person driving who said that Dorman's was delicious all home made ice cream. Excited to try it, we stopped, not realizing it was 10 minutes before they closed. The young lady still took our order but there was talk in the background about how they should close earlier. We did get out order timely and without issue other than the sundae cup being filled to the brim which made for a mess. Bite after bite. The ice cream was very good (I tried the chocolate and the caramel with hot fudge) but not amazing as...
