Our recent visit to Selvin's Restaurant + Lounge in Thousand Oaks was nothing short of delightful, offering a culinary journey that exceeded our expectations. From appetizers to dessert, each dish was crafted with precision and presented beautifully.
Appetizers:
We began our meal with the Tuna Poke and Arancini. The Tuna Poke was a refreshing start, featuring fresh, high-quality tuna paired with a perfectly balanced sauce that complemented the delicate flavors of the fish. The Arancini, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, was a perfect comfort food indulgence, bursting with savory goodness.
Main Courses:
For our mains, we opted for the Filet and the Scallop Risotto. The Filet was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, with a flavorful crust that melted in your mouth. The accompanying sides were well-seasoned and complemented the meat flawlessly. The Scallop Risotto was a standout dish, with plump, perfectly seared scallops sitting atop a bed of creamy, decadent risotto. The flavors were harmonious, and the texture of the risotto was spot on.
Desserts:
To finish, we indulged in the Torta della Nonna and a combination of Sorbet & Gelato. The Torta della Nonna was a delightful surprise, with its rich, creamy filling and crisp pastry shell, offering a perfect balance of sweetness. The Sorbet & Gelato provided a refreshing end to the meal, with each scoop bursting with natural flavors and a smooth, creamy texture.
Ambiance and Service:
The ambiance at Selvin's is both elegant and inviting, with a modern decor that sets the perfect mood for a relaxed dining experience. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, providing excellent service without being intrusive.

Read moreWe recently had the pleasure of dining at Selvins to celebrate a special birthday, and it was a delightful experience overall. The restaurant's inviting atmosphere and charming, festive decor set the perfect tone for our celebration. However, we did encounter a slight issue with the interior layout. Despite the alluring outdoor patio space, we opted for indoor seating. Regrettably, the seating arrangement caused some of our party to be somewhat dazzled by the brightness emanating from the expansive patio area. It would have been beneficial if the restaurant had installed shades to mitigate this issue.
Nonetheless, the culinary offerings at Selvins exceeded our expectations and left a lasting impression.
We had a delightful dining experience. I savored the Penne Pasta with Roasted Sweet Garlic Pesto and Shaved Pecorino while my husband indulged in the Seared Scallop Risotto, accompanied by spring pea risotto, Mushroom Conserva, Parmesan truffle foam, and Pepitas. Our friends decided to share the Napa Half Chicken Roulette, featuring Salted Labni, Apricot Jus, Sunchokes, and Smoked Paprika Couscous.
To complement our meal, we ordered the tantalizing Grilled Gem Greens Caesar salad with Torn Croutons, Shaved Parmesan, Toasted Pistachio, and Caesar Dressing.
The flavors were exceptional across all the dishes. As a grand finale, we savored the Chocolate Temptation, a decadent delight consisting of Chocolate Cake, Chocolate, Hazelnut Cream, Hazelnut Crunch, and Chocolate Glaze. The chocolate Seasonal Sorbet & Gelato were both exquisite - delicate and delicious, providing a perfect conclusion to our meal.
I love that they give sparkling H2O as a FREE option to regular water....
Read moreI expected a fine dining experience but did not get anything remotely close to that. The place, replacing an Irish pub next to a motel is huge and noisy. Like Crawford Social in Westlake Village, the two bars are the main attraction. There is a room for private parties and what appears to be another space sponsered by a wine or champagne (I don't remember the brand) but the bars are the focus and attract a young, singles crowd. The restaurant has maximized the number of tables in the rest of the space to the point that you are almost on top of your next door neighbor. If you are looking for intimacy, go elsewhere. The food was unremarkable. We ordered the Cauliflower Symphony to start. It is a huge, colorful and overwhelming concoction of the vegetable (Roasted half cauliflower, candied kumquats, sourdough crumble, kale salsa verde, yogurt cream sauce) that was well intentioned but over the top. Steak Frites (8oz prime hanger steak topped with chimichurri sauce) might have been a good choice had the meat not been overdone. For dessert, the Chocolate Temptation (chocolate cake, chocolate, hazelnut cream, hazelnut crunch, chocolate glaze) was excellent, so the evening was redeemed in part. I think the restaurant will find its legs eventually when it comes to the menu, but the atmosphere impinges on the dining experience. I don't know how the management would remedy that, but IMHO, it...
