I’m 45, and for most of my adult life I’ve enjoyed the guilty pleasure of a carb loaded dinner at Cracker Barrel every now and then. For years now, they’ve been going downhill, and it’s been so sad. I still give them a try a couple times a year, and usually leave disappointed and thinking of how wonderful it used to be. For my family, the decline began years ago when they stopped offering the biscuits and cornbread prior to the meal. We were annoyed by having to wait for it until our meals came, but we understood it probably saved them a ton of money by people not eating as much of them before their large meals came. Then at some point they started to make them smaller and they haven’t tasted as good since. They are usually hard and dry; sometimes cold or burnt, so my family members will usually only eat one, and we don’t even really enjoy it. Not sure why we would waste the calories on it; wishful thinking, perhaps. Although that was disappointing, the actual meals were still pretty solid in preparation, appearance, and taste. At some point, portions became smaller, but still tasted good, so we accepted that change. No more leftovers to take home for the next day. One of my daughter and I’s favorite menu items was always the Sunday Homestyle Chicken. We went tonight and I got it for the first time in awhile. Not sure when they changed it, but when the server sat my plate down, I was shocked at what it looked like now. It was not at all what I was expecting. It used to be very plump and crispy in appearance. When you would cut into it, it would be light and airy; crispy on the outside and very juicy on the inside. We’ve had the conversation many times in the past that we couldn’t figure out how they made such a beautiful piece of chicken. The product that was served to me tonight was much more flat in appearance, and didn’t look at all crispy. It reminded me of chicken that sat under a heat lamp for awhile. I hoped that it still tasted the same, but was highly disappointed after trying it. The breading was soft, not crispy like it used to be, and the chicken was like rubber. I could barely cut it with my fork, and it used to easily fall apart with a fork. My chicken, dumplings, and mac and cheese were all served to me cold. Oddly enough, the mac and cheese was very soupy in appearance, so I assumed it was very hot, but it was cold. Not sure how this happens, because Mac and cheese usually thickens tremendously once cooled down. I’m guessing at some point they changed this recipe too. I understand that companies from all walks are cutting corners, but when it comes to me spending my time and money out to eat, I expect something that will be better than what I can do myself at home. Cracker Barrel is not providing this luxury for me anymore, so sadly, I will not be planning on going back. Our server did take my meal off the bill. She was very nice and apologetic, so I did appreciate that. I pushed my meal aside and did not eat it beyond my initial tastes of each item. I declined having a replacement because I didn’t want to wait for it. We had already been there awhile, and I had a 45 minute drive to...
Read moreI LOVE Cracker Barrel, call me crazy but I do. It’s a restaurant that transports you! So you can imagine I was excited to grab some good ol’ biscuits on our 10 hour road trip. It started well, waiter was super nice, biscuits were amazing. Then came the food. My husband steak looked amazing. Mine? Over cooked and impossible to eat or chew (I tried, I hate sending back food) I ordered Medium-Rare. my husbands convinced me to complain. Our waiter instead of taking the plate back, he takes a slice of it to show the kitchen and manager. (No big deal, I imagine that is what they do) I’m left eating my broccoli while waiting for my steak. The manager came and apologized m, which I believed was a nice gesture. Reassured me that they would get my steak right. I just say that there is nothing to worry about as those things happen. Here comes my steak! First look, didn’t seem right, but my waiter had already left my side. I cut it and guess what? Over cooked too, after mentioning again and again that I wanted my steak medium rare (my husband got it perfectly medium rare, so I wonder why mine ended up being twice wrong). I look around, no manager to be found. No waiter either but then again, I don’t want to wait an extra 10-15min for my steak. I try to eat it, almost broke my teeth. But I was starving and still with 7 hours of road ahead of me. The waiter just comes with the check and leaves, doesn’t ask if the food was better or not! We go to the cashier to pay, mentionned to the lady, that rolled her eyes and wasn’t of any help... bright side, the fruit was good, brocolis and salad good. Steak? No no and no. Nice effort on the service tho! Even though it...
Read moreI understand that valentines day it is busy. Waited for 29 minutes for a table, not bad. Got seated and our server came over and got our drinks. Came back with drinks and than took our order, great. Biscuits came out but no corn bread. Apparently there was none done. Ok still not bad. 1 hour later we got our appetizer after I had to ask the server where it was and she sent the manager over. 1 hour later after asking if we will ever get our food the main meal came out. I ordered a 10 ounce steak with shrimp Mac and cheese and broccoli. The shrimp was cold Mac and cheese had black stuff from it sitting in steam table scraped on my plate. The medium steak came out so well done I had to use the knife as a saw just to try to cut it. The only thing I could eat was the broccoli. My spouse got the steak and carrots with shrimp. His shrimp and carrots were cold and steak over cooked. The meal my son got was the only meal that was edible. The cooks in that kitchen should be ashamed of them selves. Each and every one needs to take the serv safe course and go over food serving temp. They all need proper training on how to cook a steak. I feel so bad for our young server, she was working so hard just to keep hearing all her tables ask where the food was. Unable to eat the slop that was placed on our plates, when my son was done eating we asked for bill and paid than left. Leaving a restaurant hungry is a new for me and my spouse. $80.00 for 3 meals at which 2 couldn't be eaten is a sin. Do better for your customers cracker barrel and invest in proper trading in...
