My friend and I decided to eat here on 11/12/2022 after not being able to get a table at our favorite restaurant down the street due to time constraints. Allowing ourselves 90 minutes for dinner, we entered at 5 p.m. and were immediately seated in a cozy bar area with only a few patrons seated. The main dining room was also sparsely seated. We were provided with menus immediately and a server appeared after 10 minutes. He was knowledgeable about the menu but had only 2 recommendations about what was good to eat, neither of which appealed to us. ( Our first choice was the fish and chips which he steered us away from stating they could occasionally be "off".) We each chose instead French onion soup ( which he endorsed ), Brussel sprouts ( which he also did not discourage and explained their prep in detail ), and open faced sliced flank steak sandwiches ( at $28.95 they should be a treat and take only 7 minures to cook for medium rare ). We also ordered cocktails which were immediately served. By 5:30 we received the Brussel sprouts and 1 generously sized bowl of soup with the cheese only partially melted. The server forgot to order the 2nd bowl but assured us it would appear shortly. We started on the sprouts which were presented nicely but were barely cooked in a flavorless balsamic vinaigrette which we doctored with the available table top salt and pepper. The sweet potatoes in the blend were perfectly cooked in contrast to the other overcooked diced bacon bits and rock hard barely cooked sprouts. By 5:50 we still had not received the 2nd soup which finally made its appearance 5 minutes later. The flavor of the soup was overwhelmed by the taste of Worstershire sauce and there were 3 large bay leaves in one bowl and 1 in the other, something I'd NEVER seen before. At 6:15 p.m. our steaks arrived -sans steak knives- beautifully presented, perfectly cooked, but small ( lady's small hand sized - maybe 6 oz. ), stringy, and disguised in some kind of a bland portabella mushroom sauce with potato wedges dusted in grated cheese artistically arranged around a large piece of soft white bread upon which the steak rested. We took 2 bites and had to package them to go since we no longer had time to eat and would doctor the meal at home. If not for the time constraints and show tickets and the manager being tied up with another disgruntled patron, we would have strongly contested the $150+tip dinner bill. We would have had a much better meal down the street at The Pour House for half that price. Rating for CJ McCloone's overpriced and...
Read moreWe had another excellent dinner at CJ McLoone’s this week and we also dined there a month ago. I meant to write a review last month but finally got to it this time. When you first pull in the parking lot and it is almost full you suspect that the place will be packed inside. While they were very busy and most tables were taken we were seated right away and had a server come right over to get our drink order. I wanted to point out that Rachel our server was outstanding. We also had her the last time we were here and that night they were short staffed and she had to cover the whole back dining room which is a lot of tables. We were prepared to be patient but she hustled and was efficient and somehow got everything to us quickly with a smile. What differentiated her as a waitress was that instead of looking stressed and angry at the impossible workload, she was fun with a sense of humor and seemed to be enjoying herself. So nice to see someone enjoying their job which can be tough one when the restaurant is packed. The food was excellent both times and while we mostly had burgers and fries they were higher end beef and really tasty and the sweet potato fries were outstanding because they were piping hot. They really seem to know how to get the food out quickly here. I also thought the place was classy and was a good value based on the quality of the food and the pricing. We will definitely be back and this will become our go to place for a...
