Just dined here to end our trip to Martha's Vineyard. Our waitress was fine, but addressed us and the table next to us together as if we were one large group. Then brought out bread for bread service- this bread seemed undercooked, it was very soft and pale. No matter, we were hungry and decided to have a piece. We were going to eat it with the olive oil and vinegar that was already at the table when we noticed not one, not two, but three dead bugs in the vinegar carafe. We told our waitress and she brought out a new set. It seemed she didn't care enough to check this new set, because this set had a dead bug in the vinegar as well. We informed her and simply stated we did not need a new carafe, not trusting it anymore. At this point, my boyfriend wanted to leave, and just pay for our drinks since we hadn't been served food yet. I wish we would have. The spaghetti pomodoro was below average. It tasted like canned tomato sauce. The veal chop special was actually tasty in flavor, but the veal was over cooked. We ate the veal plate and didn't really touch the pomodoro. We didn't complain about it, but when they threw away our empty plate, no one was prompted to ask why we were not taking it home. I was a waitress for 10 years, and find this whole experience to be below standard, or at least, the standard I used to provide when I did this job. We ordered a dessert to go to just have a palate cleanser for later. It was broken/split in the box and didn't come with the mint in the description (panna cotta with raspberry sauce and mint) Nothing was done to remedy the experience with the bugs coming in food twice, and although we didn't complain, it was evident we didn't enjoy the meal of overcooked $75 veal and basic spaghetti. A manager never stopped by to apologize about the bugs, and we left paying our check in full. We had a much nicer experience at a beer garden on the island and paid a fraction of the cost for better Italian (pizza) I wouldn't recommend this restaurant based off of our experience. On the plus side, the La Strada cocktail...
Read moreAfter a long journey from New York, we were looking forward to a feast at the islands highest rated restaurant. Salvatore’s was busy so we were seated at an outdoor table with paper napkins, but was greeted by a lovely waitress who provided menus. What met us was pasta at an average price of $35. This is more than any pasta at any Michelin rated restaurant I have ever seen - even the ones in New York do not have the audacity of charging more than $30 for a plate of pasta.
Although the obscene prices left a bad taste in our mouths, decided to stay and order. When ordering the special Lobster Ravioli ($30) we were informed this was an appetizer and that an entré-size was $50. We still ordered and looked forward to our food and wine. However, after taking the first bite, there was nothing more to say than that I was beyond disappointed. I had been served boxed, dried spaghetti with jarred sauce, two basil leaves, and a ball of low-quality burrata for $30.
In short, you get Olive Garden quality food at Michelin prices. If I were you, I would grab some higher quality ingredients at stop and shop and enjoy the meal at...
Read moreAs long-time patrons of Salvatore’s, we are extremely disappointed by our recent experience. There is absolutely no excuse for the outdoor tables out front being reserved exclusively for reservations. We’ve been loyal customers since the restaurant opened over four years ago, frequenting it year-round, including opening season nights in March, New Year’s Eve dinners, and the last night of the season during the winter months.
Our recent visit was marred by incompetence. The hostess, who clearly should not be managing seating arrangements, informed us that we would be seated inside for our 7 pm reservation after a brief wait. However, 45 minutes later, we were told we had to sit outside. To make matters worse, the outside tables are located right next to the kitchen ventilation system, making the dining experience unpleasant.
Ultimately, we decided to leave due to the poor treatment and the unsatisfactory seating arrangement. Loyal Islander customers should not be treated this way. Salvatore’s has lost our business, and we urge other potential diners to reconsider...
