Golden Corral Buffet & Grill — Restaurant in Toledo

As usual the food was good. First time at this location. But I had to drop it down to stars because the service was lousy. I arrived at 1:04 p.m. and the server did not come to me directly until 1:35. I think her name was Charlene or Charlin, I don't know really what it was cuz she never really introduced yourself to me directly but to everyone else she did. I was at the table of good 20 minutes I was having my soup she kept on looking over at me she came around and cleared of the tables near, but just looked at me and walked away didn't say anything. I'm hoping this isn't a race thing because she's black and I'm white and a couple came in that was black and she went over there and was very polite and courteous and how you doing and all the rest of that stuff super nice to them I could hear cuz they're only two tables away. Like I said 15 minutes after that she finally came over and asked whether I was okay and if I want anything then I said yes I want my coffee which I wanted 30 minutes ago. She said it while I didn't see you there. I informed her I've been sitting there for 30 minutes already and she had looked at me several times. The other people that come in we're all white guys and she eventually got them after 5 or 10 minutes after she came to me but she didn't quite sound as polite and nice as she did to the black couple. After that about every 10 minutes she came by to see if I was okay and if I want anything and she did that to the other tables then but still appear to be nicer and I locked the lighter to the black couple. I really don't care what her skin color was her nationality I just want to be treated like a customer they are to be served and for her to come out and say hey what can I do for you like they do it all the other Golden Corral's I was very disappointed in this one. The wait staff was incredibly sweet, but the staff behind the counters just seemed like they didn't want to be there; at the salad bar and dessert bar specifically. The guy at the salad bar made a big deal about sighing loudly and making a comment as he came over to the counter to help us out, but he otherwise wasn't bad. The man at the dessert bar, however, just totally ignored us at first. That was until my younger sister moved closer to the counter, thinking he wasn't going to help us, and he yelled at her not to touch the wrapped food. Both of us were unsure whether or not we were allowed to touch things wrapped in plastic, and he didn't acknowledge us so my little sister just assumed. Should she have touched it? No. But he could have TOLD her not to touch it in a normal tone instead of yelling at a child. If you're going to work with the public you need to at least try to be pleasant, but almost no one behind the counters was willing to even try, especially the male staff. Like I said, every waiter or waitress that I interacted with was extremely nice and made a point to not only do their job but make sure patrons were comfortable...But the way the staff behind the counters were talking and acting I felt like I couldn't go up and even get food in the first place. If you're going to be open during the pandemic you need to make sure your staff that doesn't normally work with the public has proper training to treat people nicely or, at the very least, not yell...

Being a former server I guess maybe I'm a little more critical than the average customer but I expect the type of service I give to others. This visit was not my favorite. The food was amazing...I rarely have a bad meal here. The service on the other hand was nothing to wire home about... Actually it is something to write home about but only to complain. We seen or server a couple times in the beginning but that was it. Matter of fact we didn't see anyone. Dishes were stacked at the end of the table making it difficult to be comfortable eating dinner when there are 4 people at the table. I got up and went up front to get napkins for our table and the table next to us...they had a baby... should've had napkins before they even sat down. I eat like a baby so I should've also had them soon after I sat down😂🤣 I don't know maybe Alicia was having a bad night...but someone needs to get it together. At no fault of our server the regular lemonade had very little flavor and the pink lemonade was overwhelmingly strong. I drank some of hubby's root beer, leaving him with an empty glass. Don't think we will be back to this location...maybe we'll give it another shot. We'll see. At least the cooks were on top of things!
