My go to place for soul food! I love it!

UPDATE: I went back to visit because I was craving soul food. I hadnt been in awhile so I read the reviews first, because of this I was not caught off guard by the long wait for food. I didnt mind because I wasn't in a hurry. I usually get smothered chicken but opted for fried catfish today. Catfish was superb! However, the sides were a big miss this time. If you're looking for dressing, like grandmama's down home dressing just skip this side altogether because it's stuffing, and if you know you know. As mentioned in previous reviews the macaroni was soft almost mush. The potato salad was good in flavor but it was mashed potato salad which isnt my thing, but again the flavor was there. The greens were a little salty and tasted green, again, if you know you know, and were a little gritty as well. I decided to buy tamales to go only to find they were as skinny as taquitos, and tastes absolutely nothing like a tamale. As a matter of fact they looked and tasted reminiscent to rolled hot sausage. Like you should put them on a hot dog bun. Its not rolled in corn husk or breading or anything. It's just whatever this meat is rolled in foil...and extremely greasy like the other review stated. Customer service was on point and the main dishes were phenomenal, but whoever is making the side dishes and the tamales probably need to be reassigned to table service and let someone else do the cooking. When it comes to the food, let's start with the one negative, the Cabbage and Dirty Rice came out lukewarm, and not hot.

I enjoyed my fried okra, Fried shrimp 🍤, and dirty rice, ok the shrimp was from frozen, but it was still pretty good.

My wife says the blackeyed peas 🫛 and yams were fire 🔥 . She loves my from-scratch gravy so she had a bit to say about the gravy that was over her Roastbeef but hey, lol I've burnt MANY Pans before perfecting my gravy, lol.

OHHHH and Their "Uptown" or "Uptown Lemonade" This is THE ORIGINAL name since the 1950s!!! People NOW are calling it " Arnold Palmer " who popularized that name by asking for it on the more Affluent side of town in the 1960s.

Yes, they have a BEAUTIFUL mix of this drink, GET ONE!!!!! Or two.

They have a minimum of Ten desserts to choose from I had the peach 🍑 Cobbler, it was NOT over sweet.

Haven’t had jmaes in long time because I had a bad experience but my sister said she had it last week and it was good so I tried to give them another try. It looked good but It was okay. I ordered the chicken dinner with an extra side and a filet that they forgot to add to my order. The baked beans was sweeter than the sweet potatoes. Macaroni was coo mixed after I seasoned it and I don't like how the chicken had no seasoning at all. I shouldn’t have to season chicken after it’s been cooked/fried😒 the greens was kinda salty. The cornbread taste like NOTHIN. It was so bland.The sweet potato cheesecake was wet to the taste. It was a lot of different flavors going on with it. I’ve never had that before and I don’t eat cheesecake so it was new to me. I also got a 7up pound cake. Never had that before either because I don’t really care for cake but was craving something sweet. The cake was moist and toooooo toooo sweet that I didn’t even finish it. You would need some type of ice cream to balance it because it could not be eaten by itself. It was some flaws in the mood but it taste better than the last time I had it but it could still use some improvements. Update 3/17/23 it has gotten worst. If I had a dog I wouldn’t give it to it.
