My family had a bit of an emergency we need to address and by the time the 8 of us were finished we needed somewhere to eat close by. Everything closed at 9 and it was 8:15 with 8 of us so we felt a bit guilty going in somewhere so close to closing. We saw Golden Pagoad was open until 9:30 on Google. I have lived in Tomball 4 years and have not visited this establishment so wasn't sure what to expect. We walked into a RED restaurant, I thought it would be overwhelming but the lighting was nice so my eyes adjusted quickly. They were very polite and accommodated us quickly. I have to rave about their straws. I get so sick of tiny thin little straws. It sounds so strange but they have good straws. They serve fried wonton chips with hot mustard and sweet n sour. I miss this!! I haven't seen an establishment do this in a long time and it was missed. We all were starving so a little snack to take off the edge was perfect!
Hot N Sour Soup- Not the spiciest I've had but it had terrific flavor and the broth was beautiful and velvety.
Egg Rolls- YUMMMMM we all raved about the eggrolls. Even my mom who normally skips the eggroll.
Half our family opted for family style and the other half wanted their own dish... I tried a bite of everyone's minus my husband's guess he was really hungry because he didn't offer me a bite and ate every bit of it.
Moo Shoo Pork- Most of my family had never heard of this and it's one of my go to's but harder to find in Tomball. Their Moo Shoo Pork was delicious! All of us that shared the family style picked this dish as the favorite. It was fresh, tasty, seasoned well and the flavors just work so well together.
General's Chicken- I like how fried the chicken was, and the chicken was good quality. Overall it was a good dish. Not the best General's Chicken I had but it was tasty.
Combination Lo Mein- They failed me here.... there wasn't a whole lot of flavor on the lo mein, I think it could've used more sauce but the biggest let down was spaghetti noodles. I absolutely HATE when a place does not use lo mein or flat noodles and uses spaghetti. I will base where I order from by their noodles. My family felt the same, no one was crazy about the spaghetti lo mein and it was the least touched dish.
Beef with Garlic or Garlic Beef (not sure what it was called)- A family member ordered this as their dish (not to share) it was the first one brought out and my oh my did it smell good! I think we were all salivating over it. Luckily he let us all try a bite. It was delicious! I loved the bamboo shoots, and the amount of water chestnuts they put in the dish. It was very flavorful and could easily become a go to dish.
Egg Foo Yung- WOW! Their patties were big, cooked perfectly, and a homemade thich, rich, dark gravy. You get 3 patties and they were tasty!
Beef & Broccoli- This is always my husbands go to at any Chinese restaurant. He did not offer anyone a sample... but he ate every single bite so my guess is it was good!
Overall we enjoyed dining at Golden Pagoad and will be back. Small changes to make. Fix the women's restroom and add a light in the small dark hallway. Changing the Lo Mein, needs more flavor/sauce and please get the correct noodles. They are not stingy with the meat or veggies in the dish so it's really sad it...
Read moreJust ordered from this place, and it was a pretty large order. After receiving it, it was delivered, I started serving and noticed that there was something wrong. Their Chow mein, or so that's what they say, comes that way. (it was just some beef mixed with a bunch of hard noodles (sticks). They said, "you must have meant Lo mein". Egg rolls were more like spring rolls (just a lot of cabbage). (they were fried but no egg or meat in them) And the worst part was the rice! wow there was something totally wrong with this rice, tasted like something nasty. So I call to see if they can do something about the rice, at least, because it was like 4 orders of them. After speaking to the guy on the phone he said that his boss said that it was made that way and that he couldn't do anything about that. So I said "so there's nothing you can do about it?" and he said "no, sorry about that". You know what the worst part is.... that we were hungry waiting on this food and for it to taste half way good, that's not good at all! On the bright side, I will say that the sweet and sour chicken was good. That's about it. Cause we also ordered orange chicken and it had something in it (looks like orange peels, maybe. but it looked fried or baked or something) that tasted bad/bitter. I usually dont like to write reviews but I thought this one was better to do it to warn anybody that is thinking about ordering from here. Once you order, that's it! You buy, you pay, you're stuck! Maybe it'll be better to eat there and see if they will change anything that doesn't taste good with you being there. Otherwise.... not a good idea. That's my...
Read moreFirst and last time I will go to this place....they only got the one star so I could post a comment...My father likes this place orders from here often. I went with him for the first time see what it's about. Once we got inside there was only one person inside waiting. The owner or hostess comes out to take our orders we greeted her and I noticed she didn't return greeting? The petite asian woman just ask what you want to order... She lost me there I knew I was not ordering but my father placed his order and she nearly demanded payment as if we didn't know it was required. She went to the back then returned with the previous customer order she was very pleasant and friendly with this white woman who was already there.. She evened smiled at that customer but was very curt with my father and I of color. Another white customer walked in placed a complicated demanding order and the hostess was just as friendly as she was with the previous customer... Minutes later she returned with my father's order and just handed it to him didnt say a word my father says oh this me this it... She is already walking away just turns and rudely says yes you only have one order right... No smiles no courtesy for people of color......What's sad is that she doesnt know us yet she treated us rudely.. Hundreds of years later and the prejudice and racism is so common. This is the south and sadly this woman didnt give us a chance before just judging us... Lady if you only knew how much we like asian food... I'll definitely take my business...
