Small town grill with a good vibe. We had great expectations and were very happy with the cleanliness and friendliness of the place. They do some things well, and some things way below average. The Good: South of Border omelette was great! My son’s bacon was really good. The water tasted filtered. The Bad: The absolute worst Chicken fried steak I’ve ever seen. This thing was small, had what almost looked like a planko coating that was so undercooked, so mushy and gross that even my young son gagged when he tried a bite of it. I was so disgusting by looking at my wife’s chicken fried steak dinner that it made me not enjoy my omelet. I think you probably get a good meal here, but only if you get lucky with your timing. One thing they lack is consistency. I hope they can improve their food quality, because I really like small hole in the wall places, and this place seems really awesome. And I hope they will scrap their CFS supplier, their recipe and their cooking method completely, then you won’t need to hide it by covering entire surface with gravy, and brown the hash browns (These are simple fixes). We all Chose hash browns as our side dishes, and only my wife took a bite of them. They were so undercooked they may as well have just put a raw potato on each of our plates. Let me add, the biggest pet peeve we have when ordering breakfast anywhere is undercooked hash browns. How hard is it to know hash browns are done? Here’s a helpful suggestion, grill until they turn Brown. The Pancakes are ok, but we expected the blueberries on top of them, not mixed in the batter. Son didn’t like them at all, but he did enjoy one of my plain pancakes. Maybe it would be helpful to list those as blueberry pancakes separately from the normal pancake...
Read moreThe Nook Grill is a diner run by Ma (Debbie), Pa (I presume, but I didn't see him, so maybe not), and their kids. It reminds me very much of a beloved greasy spoon that my dad took me and my sister to all the time from the late 1970s through the 1980s.
I arrived at "the Nook" at lunch time, still blurry-eyed from the optometrist's eye drops, and hungry as can be. Debbie took my order of two items from the menu: the corned beef reuben sandwich with onion rings substituted for the french fries and the chicken fried steak platter. I had a coke to drink and enjoyed a free refill.
The corned beef reuben was top quality for a diner. I really appreciated how thinly sliced the corned beef was. The onion rings were excellent, but I would have preferred a larger portion.
The chicken fried steak was excellent and was smothered in a tasty white gravy. The texas toast was good and their fries were very good.
Debbie was an attentive and friendly server, which I appreciated very much. She also offered me a drink to go when I paid, which I took her up on - their unsweetened tea tasted freshly brewed.
I would be remiss to not mention that I was surprised by the Nook Grill's clientele being as long in the tooth as they were. I'm 50 years old and I'm pretty sure that I was the youngest customer there for the entire time that I dined (from about 11:30 AM - 12:15 PM). Personally, I liked that, because older folks are typically quiet and drama free.
I enthusiastically rate The Nook Grill with 5-stars and will update this review with photos after I dine there next (probably after my next optometrist appointment, glasses selection, and/or...
Read moreMy daughter and I visited because we were informed that it's a family owned business raising funds for the Collins family.
The Collins family lost 5 family members at the hands of an escaped convict when he murdered them.
We wanted to show support to this family owned business that stepped in to support a grieving family during one of the most tragic moments in their life.
It's a fairly small bluish gray building located at the entrance to the Tomball VA Clinic off of 2920.
My daughter ordered French toast which smelled devine.. She inhaled it before I could even taste it so I can only assume by her facial expression that it was delicious.
I ordered a ham and cheese omelet and asked for vegetables to be added. It was good.
The service was great. They were attentive when we needed something and immediately got it for us.
The booths however, were extremely uncomfortable. There is very little space between the seat and the table for large people to fit and eat comfortably.
The next time I order from here will either be through there drive through or walk in...
