I previously wrote a positive review but after today, I'm am completely disgusted by this "restaurant".

Me & my coworker ordered take out today. 42 dollars to be exact . A few cooked tempura rolls, and a raw tuna roll. Brought it back to our job, ate it, and weren't impressed. There was a TON of liquid inside the containers, not sure what they were. They were sloppily put together, all smooshed inside the containers. Whatever. We ate what we could, and went back to work. Until 20 minutes later, we both became VIOLENTLY I'll. We couldn't perform our job tasks because we were in the bathroom for what seemed like hours. Not only was this embarrassing....but mortifying. I called uminyoya, spoke to a lady who once again, barley spoke English. I explained everything. She said her "manager/owner" would call me.

Well...he did. And after I explained, that Ive been a VERY LOYAL CUSTOMER, for years, always tipped well, even when the servers didn't deserve it, I asked for our 42 dollars back. We were very dissatisfied with the meal, and the disgusting aftermath. The OWNER told me to go to the hospital, then bring PROOF that we were sick, THEN he would reimburse us our 42 dollars. I think my jaw hit the floor. I then told him, no...we just want our money back, he should make this right. He then said " next time you come in, as a 1 time convenience...we can have 20% off our next meal". I told him he was a horrible person, and he obviously didn't give a damn. He was silent. I hung up PEOPLE. do NOT come here. The food isn't truly half off, they just priced it higher on the menu to look that way. The sushi isn't honestly good quality. The servers are NEVER friendly, and the owner...as youve just read...only cares about money . I'm surprised this place hasn't been sued several times....

I couldn’t help but wonder: Is there anything worse than finding a cockroach in a place where you’re supposed to feel safe, like the bathroom of a trendy sushi spot?

Uminoya, the latest darling of the city’s culinary scene, had all the makings of a perfect evening. The ambiance was chic yet inviting, with dim lighting that made everyone look just a bit more mysterious. The sushi? Exquisite. The kind of delicate, melt-in-your-mouth goodness that makes you fall in love with food all over again. And then, it happened.

As I made my way to the bathroom, I was already dreaming of my next piece of uni, but what I found there made me rethink the entire evening. A cockroach, large enough to have its own zip code, scuttled across the floor as if it, too, had a reservation at the hottest sushi joint in town. In that moment, the glamorous haze that Uminoya had so carefully crafted was shattered, replaced with the stark realization that even the most sophisticated places have their dirty little secrets.

It’s one thing to indulge in the wild side of New York City when it involves fabulous shoes and unexpected romance, but when it comes in the form of an unwelcome guest in the bathroom of your favorite sushi bar, it’s a different story. They say the devil is in the details, and this detail was a dealbreaker.

So, while Uminoya may serve up rolls that make your taste buds dance, the unexpected appearance of that six-legged intruder left me with a bad taste in my mouth. In the end, it’s a reminder that in the city that never sleeps, neither do the...

The food was excellent and the vibe was good. Our original waitress was fine, but at 8:40 as we finished dinner, the staff began to rush us because they closed at 9. A second waitress came over ready to give us our bill as we were finishing dinner, at which point I stated that we may be interested in some quick dessert, and asked for a menu. She sighed loudly, said "oh" and walked away - and did not bring us a menu. Then our original waitress returned and asked if we were done, and I repeated our interest in dessert to her - only to get another loud sigh as she walked away. She did bring a menu, and I was willing to let this all go - until the second waitress returned thereafter to take our dessert order but led with "you need to hurry because we close at 9." At this point, it was not even 8:50. I told her we didn't appreciate being rushed. At the same time, we heard them doing the same to another table, who, as they began to get up and leave, said, "I guess we're done!" Then as soon as the second waitress dropped the desserts and check at the same time, an older woman came over with the mobile payment device and asked us to pay now since they were closing soon. All this before their actual closing time of 9pm. I've never been so rudely rushed out of a restaurant before... felt weird. I'd still go back because the food was very good, but the customer service was lacking. No restaurant should expect to close and lock their doors at exactly their closing time - that's not how the...

We ordered dinner.. keyword dinner.. The item on the menu is called the" new style" sashimi. When it first arrived I thought they messed up the order. It is literally five slither slices of fish with a horrible sauce on top which does not even pair with the sashimi. Another huge problem was I don't know if the sauce that was placed on top was hot because it cooked the salmon which is supposed to be raw hence sashimi. Lastly why are you putting sauce on top of my sashimi. It should just be plain raw fish. I took a picture of this disaster. You can see the extremely thin slice of sashimi. You can also see the gray piece of salmon.. last time I checked salmon was orange. This item also cost $14. I could go to ShopRite and get a big piece of fish for that or order this from another local sushi place and get triple. This is literally the worst sushi we have ever gotten from anywhere. Never again am I ordering from this overpriced place. I took pictures as proof you can see the gray salmon, the thin slice and the extremely small portion. I just worked 16 hours today and thank you for ruining my day. I literally had to spend more money and ordered Ikko because I was craving sushi.
