Kingās Hawaiian Bakery & Restaurant in Torrance serves up classic Hawaiian dishes and tasty treats from their bakery.
They have a parking lot with plenty of spaces. You shouldnāt have any issue finding parking here.
Upon entering this establishment, the bakery is to your immediate right and the restaurant to the left. Thereās a hostess table right by the giant pineapple, which makes me feel Iām at Bikini Bottom (Sponge Bob Square Pantsā home) when I see it. Thereās also a pretty cool cylindrical aquarium in the middle of a giant round table. The noise level ranges from average to loud - something I personally donāt mind.
Food Iāve tried here: Hawaiian Rolls - These famous rolls come complimentary to each table and served warm. They also provide little foil packets of butter slices.
Mix Plate - This is a shareable dish, which I found to be of value if you want to try a little of āeverythingā. Everything being Huli Huli Chicken, Teriyaki Beef and Kalua Pork. It comes with a side of Macaroni Potato Salad, Lomi Salmon, and white rice. The meats were rather dry but the Mac potato salad was so so good! I also enjoyed the Lomi Salmon - it was delicious and I ended up ordering another side of just Lomi Salmon. Even when shared, the Mix Plate alone is a heavy and filling dish.
Kalbi Ribs Plate - I enjoyed the kalbi beef more than the Huli-Huli Chicken, Teriyaki Beef and Kalua Pork. It had really good flavor. I just wish it came with more.
Paradise Cake - I loved the colors but found the cake to be dryer than how it appeared on my first visit. The second visit was better/fresher.
Dobash Cake - My favorite dessert here. The cake has a bouncy texture and the cake seemed to melt at first bite. I enjoyed this a lot!
Mochi Ice Cream Flight - This comes with 4 mochi ice cream with the flavors of Mango, Strawberry, Vanilla and I think Chocolate or Red Bean. Each mochi ice cream ball is sliced in half giving 8 pieces thatās perfect for sharing with those at your table.
Guava Juice - itās a must to complete an Island experience IMO.
The interaction Iāve had with the Kingās Hawaiian staff has been great at both the Restaurant and the Bakery-side. They are welcoming and always smiling. The second time I visited, there was a long wait time.
Overall, I enjoyed their bakery items more than the food itself; however, I did get my fill from the mix plate and left the restaurant satisfied. Iāll most likely be back the next time Iām in the mood for some delicious...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOverall. 3.75 STAR. This place gives me the vibe of a Hawaiian version of Norms. Good, decent food. Nothing too fancy but satisfy needs. Food quality feels little better than average but nothing Iād crave to come back for. Except for the sweet bread. Itās pretty decent that I wouldnāt mind making a stop to buy some for say, breakfast next day.
Service. 3.75 STAR. No complaints, helpful, resourceful waiter. Not over the top concerned with customer satisfaction, relaxed, but comfortable.
Food Ordered: *$15.75 Mix Plate (under Combibation Plate) - beef, pork and chicken sampler. Flavor is decent but a tad on the tad too dry side. I guess itās been the experience with most Hawaiian food Iāve had so far. Beef was sweet & has a beef jerky flavor to it. Pork & chicken was fairly soft. flavor was great when I started out hungry then levels out half way into it. I would try something else next time. 3.75 STAR. *$6.50 Spam Mushibi (under Pupus Appetizers) - rice with spam. Tastes typical but a little dry without the teriyaki sauce. 3.5 STAR. *$2.50 Passion Fruit Orange Guava Juice (kids menu) - refreshing. Delicious. Natural. Comes in a clear to-go cup vs regular size comes in a glass cup. 5 STAR. *$1.95 Vanilla Ice Cream (2@$1.25 ea) - one large scoop. Plenty to share 1 order with 2 young Kiddos. We ordered 2 qty and each kid had half cup leftover. Flavor a tad above typical. 3.5 STAR. *Complementary sweet bread - arrived hot, with cold butter. Fresh, soft taste. Lives up to the reputation. 5 STAR.
Other. 4 STAR. Busy restaurant with a large parking lot, plenty of seating, but pretty pack too on a Monday for lunch around 12:30 pm. No wait, no line for me upon arrival. We pass a cool huge pineapple upon dining area entrance and sat close to a large cylinder fish tank, with āDoryā swimming around and entertaining the kids. Kids got busy with crayons and coloring placemat while waiting. Was considering ordering their 3 flavor cake on the cover of the dessert menu, but waiter confirms it contains artificial color & flavor. So we passed. Bought $3.29 Sweet Roll...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI do not live in Torrance, but I'm in the area ever so often and I've driven by this place countless times and have been meaning to try it for quite some time. Luckily this past weekend I got a chance and I'm so happy that I did so. The food is honestly delicious not only just for Hawaiian food, but breakfast and lunch in general. They have a lot of King's products right near the entrance from foods to merch and they also have a large bakery and cookie area filled with tons of desserts and bakery items. The other side of the building is the restaurant which is very large and is complemented by many different types of seating from booths, to tables, to circular tables surrounding an aquarium with swimming fish. They really carry the island theme throughout the interior and it's a fun place to have a meal. There's also a giant free parking lot right attached behind the restaurant so parking is extremely easy and plentiful.
Our server was very polite and attentive. They have a lot of items on the menu, most are traditional Hawaiian dishes, which I do not eat often but enjoy it when I do. I started off with some coffee because I'm a big fan of Kona coffee and that was a great start. I also ordered the Tropical Tea, which is basically an iced tea but sweetened with some nice passionfruit flavors. For my meal, I chose the Loco Moco because it has all the sorts of flavors that I love combined, and I rarely ever get it. I will say this is probably the best Loco Moco that I've ever had and would highly recommend it to anyone else. We also ordered some bakery items like the Maple Bar, the Cinnamon Swirl, and a few other things.
Overall I would highly recommend. I am a fan of this restaurant and plan to be back more times...
