I am new to the neighborhood and it is a delight to find a soulfood restaurant on long Island, so I was looking forward to supporting this soulfood establishment. The place is a bit old looking but it is clean. It needs a new coat of paint. The music was unnecessarily TOO LOUD! There are no menus or pricing listed anywhere. Not even a typed up list from a home computer (which I was surprised to not see consideringthe look of the place) However, the hospitality and customer service helped to make up for the ambiance since I was ordering take-out. I ordered the Salmon (pan seared) with sauted spinach & broccoli w/string beans. The gentleman behind the counter informed me of a vegetarian meal which consists of 4 sides. I ordered that for my girlfriend which was mac-n-cheese, collard greens, broccoli w/string beans and yams. The salmon was fresh and tasteful. I also liked the taste of the sides I ordered. My friend said the vegi platter was decent but the mac-n-cheese was not flavorful and tasted like it had cheap imitation cheese in it. I was satisfied with my order. Since I am new to the neighborhood I will definitely stop by and patronize this establishment again but I do hope the music is at a much more pleasant volume. A nice ambiance, good customer service, and good food...
Read moreWhere do I begin....the food is AMAZING. I have never had collard greens like this before. It wasn't bitter at all, which I don't and wouldn't mind but this was unique, bursting with flavor. It had a little zing, a little spice, some heat, sweetness (probably honey), and some fresh acidity to cleanse the palette for the next bite. The Mac "n" Cheese was baked to perfection. It was everything you want Mac "n" Cheese to be. It was creamy, very cheesy, not overly salty, and very savory. I got ribs (since they were out of chicken) and boy did it not disappoint. It was firm but tender, simple but leaving you wanting more after each bite. And the service was superb. The guy working tonight was the owners son. Very kind, honest, and considerate. He even gave me a free piece of sweet potato corn bread and promised it was good, and he definitely didn't lie. My three older who doesn't really eat cornbread ate it up. I give this place a 10/10 and will be frequenting here often. Thanks for an amazing meal and no they did not ask me to write this review and no I don't work here. Just believing not gatekeeping and writing honest reviews. Check them out, you'll see...
Read moreSince moving from the city to long Island I was on the hunt for soul food and found this place. It was difficult to find when I used my GPS. But overall the wings were ok. The lobster mac was a tad bit spicy which I didn't like. Giving three stars because they ran out of ribs. No corn bread. They only sold cake by the pie not by slice. I wasn't thrilled that I had to wait outside for my Order. The tall gentleman behind the counter was VERY nice. But if those items were available I would have given 5 stars. Maybe I will visit again. I'm 30 minutes away and it was disappointed those items were not available. If you like non spicy mac. Then get the plain mac and cheese. I...
