Ive loved Reubens my entire life and would guess I've eaten several hundred if not over a thousand. I've traveled a lot so I've had them all over the country in diners and delicatessens. I have never in my life seen one this small. It had no more than a table spoon of Sauerkraut on top and even though I could tell how salty the meat was, it still had no taste. Side note- haven't had covid and have no issues with being able to taste foods.... but after trying that, the Mac, the potato salad, and the soup.... I took a covid test because it was all so tasteless. If I can make better food at home it's a clear sign it's not a place worth spending money. We also arrived for breakfast and they had no latkes (the reason we came) and I stood at the front counter for over 10 min waiting to ask about getting bagels to go and was ignored even though it wasn't busy. The owner refused to even make eye contact and kept just walking past. I would completely understand if it was a busy day but it wasn't. So we left and I hate throwing things out but even though we took it home because I didn't want to waste it- it all went in the trash. I can not believe that people are happy with this level of service or food. Our server however was so nice and on top of everything. The coffee was also better than most of the local spots in the area for a regular cup- didn't taste like flavored water like most so that was an unexpected treat! The pickle was ok too. But I wouldn't go back for a coffee and a pickle! It was also priced about $5 more than what I'm used to getting that has about double the meat/cheese/Sauerkraut. I've had them at road stops that were better. It's ashame I was so excited to find...
Read moreOy Vey! We really wanted to like this place with the new owners but I’m afraid we had a VERY lackluster experience today for lunch. First the good news… The Matzoh Balls were perfect and that’s how they got 2 stars. Unfortunately it quickly went downhill from there. Starting with the chicken soup that supported the perfect Mazah Balls. The chicken soup was not right. It tasted like it was made from bullion cubs. Look, chicken soup is like your foundation. You can’t cheat or scrimp on Jewish style chicken soup! Next I had latkes and cabbage rolls and my wife had a tuna fish sandwich. How do you mess up tuna fish? It was thin, watery and lacked any personality. The bright spot for me was the cabbage rolls. They were spot on! But the whole magilla was spoiled by the Latkes. Horrible! Like hockey pucks. Completely burnt on the outside and wafer thin. I tried to see maybe the center was edible but it tasted like the oil they used was old and dirty. When we brought this to the waiter’s attention, he shrugged and said he’d inform the cook. What cook would serve hockey pucks??? Finally we corralled a co-owner to ask him how these hockey pucks escaped the kitchen… HE shrugs and says he’s sorry. Well we are sorry too but that was our last trip to...
Read moreWent here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon with my mother and father. We were all expecting the incredible Fox's of old, and we were all disappointed.
First and foremost, the sandwiches are thankfully still delicious. Both the original Reuben and the New York, New York are very tasty. Unfortunately you pay quite a hefty price and don't get a whole lot. They pack the meat very high in the center of the sandwich, but near the outside there's basically none.
The latkes were well cooked but under-seasoned. The macaroni salad was also pretty good but the chunks of veggies left a huge crunch with almost every bite, which I personally don't care for.
The potato salad, however, was the biggest letdown of all! Fox's used to have an AMAZING potato salad, and that's all gone! What we got was a bland, unseasoned, watery mess. Virtually no flavor other than bleh. The coleslaw was also equally underwhelming.
Fox's Deli still makes a good Reuben...but unfortunately that's about the only good thing...
