Ice Cream Cottage — Restaurant in Town of Brookhaven

We just brought our kids here and they loved it.. Having grown up just east of Mastic, I only went to the Ice Cream Cottage once when I was about 10 years old, but I’ve been aware of this place as a local landmark for most of my life.. We recently heard that their ice cream was “homemade” so we thought we’d give it a try.. Their selection of flavors was pretty impressive, and they offer ice cream, gelato, sorbet and even Italian ices (they even had a vegan soft serve option).. We all found something that sounded appealing and tasted delicious!! They have a wide selection of toppings as well as cones, from sugar or waffle to pretzel or Oreo.. It was very crowded when we visited but it was all part of the fun and the line moved quickly.. Honestly we had just chosen our orders by the time we reached the counter. The prices were definitely reasonable if not cheap.. After we got our orders we joined all of the other customers outside on benches and ate our ice cream while our kids played with some new friends.. We didn’t try the cakes, so I can’t offer any feedback there, but the ice cream was great.. I’d say it was better quality and more appealing selection than Haagen Dazs or Ben & Jerry’s at a lower cost.. I Walked in just to pick up one of their already made cakes that they keep in the freezer. Did not need any writing on the cake, did not want any added toppings, just wanted to pay for the cake and be on my way. They IGNORED ME and literally would charge person after person and continue to ignore me while I stood in front of the register. I asked a few times for help and even had to call the store while standing in front of the register and tell them that I was in front of the register but could not get help, and they still ignored me!

This is not the way you treat a customer, you never ignore a customer! Specially when the customer is right in front of you when you are at the register and you choose to charge someone else rather than address the customer that can easily be charged in a matter of minutes. When I started talking to another customer about how I could not pay for a simple cake and how I was being ignored they finally decided to pay attention. Charging me took the girl one minutes because I used Apple Pay.

This terrible experience could've easily been avoided if you just would have addressed me personally instead of ignoring me. Terrible...

I called to order a cake for pickup and the young lady who picked up told me she could not do over the phone orders and to place it online before 8pm.. sure no problem. I placed the order at 7:14pm for pick up at 4pm the next day and got a confirmation message and everything. I then get a call around 1:30pm saying they cannot make my cake that there are no cake decorators. I was placed on a hold to see if there was something they can do and after waiting for about 10 min they hung up. I then called back and was connected to a very very very rude lady who was further explaining how there is no cake decorators and they cant do anything. I even offered to pick it up later. I explained how special and important this was for me and she offered no sympathy or resolutions to get this matter resolved. She just kept saying how "she does not work at night so she does not know what is going on" I was really counting on this cake today and I am so disappointed. Please do better and train your workers to understand protocols!!!! I am so upset and now frantically searching to find a new cake for an event...
