Kobu of Mahopac is a cesspool. Please, read my review as to why.
Abhorrent service. They got my take out order wrong, gave me bad sushi and blamed me for their mistake and then showed me an unparalelled level of disrespect.
I had been coming here for a couple of years, and until recently it has been good. Recently, there has been terrible food, and even worse service. I simply cannot explain the level of disrespect I received here by the staff.
I went there recently for take out. I asked for the three roll special, two salmon avocado rolls and a tuna roll. The woman who sits up front by the front door took my order and incorrectly gave me two shrimp avocado rolls and then told me I ordered shrimp, which I clearly asked for salmon.
She reluctantly exchanged the incorrect rolls for salmon avocado and the food was mediocre at best, except they charged me separately for the rolls instead of charging me their advertised lunch special, which was a few dollar loss to me. I wasn't even upset, I just took my food and left because I was hungry and the food had been good in the past.
Most recently, I ordered the same rolls, for take out. Two salmon avocado rolls and a tuna roll, with an avocado salad. The two salmon avocado rolls were terrible - bits of what seemed like leftover salmon that had lots of chewy skin, was slimy and was flavorless. My third roll, the tuna roll, was made with hard rice, little bits of tuna which all had different color and texture, and it had a fragment of broken plastic in it.
Upon discovery of the plastic and after eating some of the foul tasting rolls, I called Kobu. The same woman who took my order this time and the last time answered. I started to politely explain the situation, and she told me to stop ordering from them and disconnected the call.
Infuriated, I hopped in my car, go back to Kobu and demand a refund. Upon my arrival, the woman who works in the front whom I believe is the owner immediately starts arguing with me over whether or not the fish was any good, and called me a liar when I told her about the fragment of plastic. I retorted by politely telling her I am not here to argue about whether or not the fish was fresh, but simply wanted the situation fixed - I was hungry for sushi.
She started telling me to shut up, and then she demands to see the piece of plastic, which was thrown out with the bad tuna roll. Absolutely ridiculous.
Then, this woman tells me to never order from Kobu again, blaming me for her prior mistake, when she gave me the shrimp avocado roll instead of the salmon avocado roll.
At that, I demanded a full refund. She refused, and proceeds to give me only a partial refund and when I object, she tells me to call 911 if I am not satisfied! Needless to say, after being disrespected and humiliated in front of other customers, I stormed out.
I've never experienced such a lack of dignity and respect directed at me like this in a place of business. The woman who sits up front by the door who looks to be in her 40s and of Asian background is profoundly disrespectful, combative and of a foul disposition.
Please, do not dine here, and please spread the word about what a cesspool this place is. Worst...
Read moreOur visit was a disappointment. We went on a Sunday afternoon and knew there would be no lunch specials. The trouble started right from the beginning when we couldn't seem to make our waitress understand what we wanted to order. She brought the wrong food and then argued with us that we didn't order the right thing. We ordered chicken tempura and she kept saying chicken tempuro and she told us we were wrong. She brought us some kind of a sushi plate. The other two entrees were okay but then came the rice fiasco. I don't know what was so hard about telling her what kind of rice we wanted. All three entrees were to come with rice. And in the end we ended up with one cup of rice white, one cup of rice brown I guess, and one plate of pork fried rice that when we got the bill we were charged $15 extra for. One entree didn't get any rice at all. We were totally frustrated trying to communicate with the waitress. We went there because of the beautiful view of the lake and shortly after we got there, even though there was only four other people in the restaurant, the waitress came around and pulled the blinds down so now there was no view of the lake. That was minor compared with the upset of receiving a bill for $86 for two sodas, two sesame chicken entrees and one chicken tempura entree. We wrote it off as a loss saying we would never go back again unless perhaps during lunch time. There was no one that looked like they were in the position to even talk to about it. The food was average but the difficulties we faced with getting the order we're not worth the time we spent going there. One of us ended up eating their entree after the other two had half eaten theirs. My advice is if you go there make sure you check your bill completely and that you make the waitress understand what you want so you don't end up with the subsurd charge of $15 for a rice that was never...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars here, I would. I have no idea where these great reviews come from or if they are legit but my experience last night was the worst I have ever encountered in an establishment. I wanted to try to it because I live close by and it had great reviews. My experience starting from the waitress who was cold and brief. Our salad tasted like the bowl with the salad had been there in the fridge for hours. And itncan be verified because the bowl was freezing cold and the dressing was curded at the top. The appetizers were just gross. My shrimp tempura barely had shrimp and the veggies had no salt. The drinks came in and the lemonade tasted like a dirty ice machine. And so did our mojito. The ice machine probably never gets cleaned hence why the drinks are terrible. And here comes the entree, the beef teriyaki had no flavor and they chopped up an entire onion for the plate. What am I going to do with all that, seriously? My hibachi chicken and shrimp was extremely underwhelming. The shrimp was overcooked and the chicken didn't taste like chicken. For kickers, the waitress leans over my plate as I am trying to eat this gross meal just to switch the soy sauce bottle. Like, why not say excuse me or wait until we are done eating. She didn't even apologized and kept it moving. The only positive out of this was that the manager was kind enough to slash our bill in half but I will not be coming back. I rather take the trip down to White Plains and have an...
