Been here a few times. My family is Ecuadorian and I moved to Northern Westchetser from NYC about 15 years ago. I tend to give benefit of doubt with small business owners and extend a bit of grace with my reviews, but today's experience pushed it over rhe edge. I've been here about 10x total figuring I could make it a backup local ecuadorian food spot, but each time they are noticeably frugal, extremely measuring their portions to underserve on proteins and load up the plate with less expensive ingredients. I usually dont have a problem with this so long as the price is somewhat reflective of this. Today, i had rabo guisado (stewed oxtail). I had 4 anorexic pieces of tail that were mostly all bone and a mountain of rice. It was 1115 am, assuming they were doing lunch specials i didnt dwell on it too much. When i went to pay i saw the price was $19 for that joke of a portion. I was still hungry and despite my better sense to just walk out, I ordered an avena en leche (oatmeal with milk) which has a higher price than oatmeal with water (which ecuadorians use to make beverages). What I saw (mostly white) was actually diluted heavily with water. At this point, this crosses the line and all the other instances of poor experience start to line/add up. I also notice they keep their warmers at lower consumption and ended up eating a COLD sango de camaron earlier this week. I'm sure these measures to nickel and dime just translate to a poor experience of Ecuadorian Food. Place has potential because of its locations (proximity to Lake Mahopac) but whoever owns it seems to be somewhat myopic when it comes to running a restaurant, "penny wise, dollar foolish"
Good ecuadorian food is abundant in Northern Westchester (ossining, peekskill).. some of my favorites are el Costeñito in Ossining and La Cabana in Peekskill.. these places are a step change better than this place. These other places actually have better food at a fraction of price.
This place sucks. I usually dont say this, but I feel a certain kind of way when people are cheap to point of being deceitful (diluting their milk with water). Makes me feel like I was robbed and I didn't get...
Read moreI was really hoping I would love this place to support my fellow Ecuadorians but I did not. Was a party of 5 and we all agreed we would not be back. They charge practically for everything to include the water they gave us. Who charges for water? The homemade hot sauce is good but they also charged for that. The guatita portion ($16 approx) was small and what I got was mostly potatoes and a few bite size pieces of the tripe and of course a hefty portion of white rice. Flavor was good but they were stingy with the meat. The shrimp ceviche was ok at best and we had some baked chicken that was very ordinary. The young lady who served us knew very little English and when I complained in Spanish about the lack of tripe she just smiled and laughed. Half of the items on the menu were not available, yet they decided to open to the public. When we revised the bill at the end, we had a service charge that we brought to the attention of another woman who seemed to be a manager and she did remove. Overall the experience was lacking and it’s a no...
Read moreI came here a week ago or so because of the Tiktok videos... awesome videos! Love them. But... they failed to say most seafood is only on weekends. I asked for a cup of coffee with milk... and the milk was not good and this because they did not have a juice option on menu. Place is clean but there was a strange septic smell flowing from the opposite side from where the restroom is. Food was okay. I asked for a churrasco and it looked more like a salteado with a unique different taste. Muchines were ok but different. Chaulafan was good. Don't expect this to be 100% ecuadorian. They do say this. I wish them good luck and...
