This was our second attempt dining here for wing night, and unfortunately, it confirmed our decision never to return.
On our first visit, my husband, daughter, and I were not greeted, and the older woman at the entrance treated us with noticeable hostility—something we observed she did not extend to other guests. It made us uncomfortable, but we stayed because we were hungry and had our daughter with us. The food itself was enjoyable, which is why we decided to give the restaurant another chance.
Upon returning, however, we had an even worse experience. As soon as we walked in, the same older woman looked us up and down and curtly said, “Yes?” I politely responded that we needed a table for three. Instead of offering a welcome or even basic courtesy, she repeated the same dismissive behavior—rolling her eyes, grunting, and walking away without a word. Both my husband and I immediately noticed and were taken aback.
Before being seated, my husband realized he had forgotten his wallet and asked if they accepted Apple Pay. Her response was sharp and condescending: “No,” delivered with a hostile tone. When I clarified that we would simply leave, she repeated herself with the same dismissive attitude. At that point, I told her we had no issue leaving and would not be returning.
As a Hispanic family, we were the only non-white patrons present on both occasions, and it was clear from her behavior that we were being treated differently. I rarely attribute poor service to racial bias, but in this case, the pattern was undeniable. It was deeply disappointing and disheartening to feel singled out and disrespected in our own community.
We will not be returning and will be sharing this experience with our friends and family so they can make informed decisions about supporting this establishment. No guest deserves to be treated in...
Read moreI was fed Nanuet Restaurant Pizza by my parents beginning probably around 1962 when I was 3 years old. After going to see a move, a trip to the Nanuet Restaurant was the place that they would take me for dinner or a snack. The Pizza never varied from the delicious thin crust with the perfect crunch and delicious red sauce and Mozzarella. While the rest of the food served was always good, it was the Pizza that was the star of this place. News several years ago that the Restaurant was to be sold was beyond sad, almost like losing a family member (crazy, right?). A few months after its' closing, I heard that new owners opened up a newly renovated space and with an updated menu. My wife and I happily returned to our favorite pizza place and were almost speechless as we looked around at this beautifully renovated and updated space. Sad but true, the original Nanuet Restaurant was not a destination one went for the space. The bar and other seating areas remained unchanged from probably the 1950's so it was shocking to see the old building looking beautifully and caringly updated. Well, joyously, the pizza was virtually the same as it had always been and that was pretty darn good. The rest of the menu was what one expects from a fine dining place and not from your local pizza joint. Appetizers, salads (love the burrata!!!) , all manner of wings , sliders and much more. The menu choices are many and the food consistently good. I could go on, but I think my point has been made. Go hungry and often and enjoy the best Pizza you could ask for and make sure you have room to try the rest of the offerings. We are never disappointed by the...
Read moreThe place died over 10 years ago. Went back to see what it looks like and the great sign outside is still there but inside its Baileys or any Irish pub in the county. Gone was the charm and distinct look it once had-Gone were the characters that once inhabited the place-Gone was the once great tasting pizza-though thats really been gone 10 plus years ago. If you want great pizza its still down the road at the Nanuet Hotel. Had the wings and was not the once best wings in Rockland they were voted for. A more smokey BBQ sauce taste and not Buffalo at all. The pizza looked familiar but was so bland and tasteless. An almost cardboard like taste-no zest at all. Yep its all long gone. The sign out front may as well be changed as well. For those who once mobbed to this place its a sad change. To the newbies I am sure they like it. It was good yet bittersweet to go back and get it over with. It signified the end and closure in my remaining life whatever that may be. They did keep 2 of the old hats behind the bar I guess to honor its past history but those along with the old sign are all that remain. That does not make it "Nanuet...
