While the food was decent, the service was beyond horrible. This is the last time we will ever spend money at this restaurant.
The staffs were full on racist toward our table. The entire time we were having breakfast, we received side glance, murmurs, and various explicit gestures letting us know we were not welcome. So...what did we do wrong? Were we loud, rude, etc? Nope, we were a small Asian family, that's all. We wanted to share two large plates among 3 people, but the server still brought out all 3 large plates. We then asked for a box, which the waitress came over and using only one hand to literally flicking the food from the plate into the box. How condescending can you possibly be to make your guests feel they should run away from your restaurant immediately???
While I appreciate the other reviews for food and services comments, the same service courtesy was not extended to our family. And the only difference between my family and other guests is our Asian features; otherwise, our money was just...
Read moreClean, inviting and having friendly and attentive service, my visit was a very pleasant one. My order was the very basic de-facto standard of any diner; the tuna sandwich on rye (un-toasted of course). I consume a lot of tuna, and could very well qualify as the poster child for mercury poisoning. Theirs was solid white albacore with just enough mayo and not the commonly served Exxon Valdez tanker load of oily and runny variety. Micro chopped celery and a fine texture, it's obvious they process theirs mechanically. The taste is old school, reviving memories of the tuna I loved so much as a child when I'd accompany my dad at work in Manhattan and would buy me lunch at this hole in the wall diner always served up with a vanilla milkshake. Ah yes, those were the days...I digress... The little diner is worthy of your gastronomic desire. When exiting, our waitress, who was wonderful, was serving a monster size dish of one of the specials; It looked and...
Read moreI was shocked to read a recent review of the Little Diner that characterized one of the servers as racist. As a Black man, I refuse to dispute a person of color's perception of their experience as racially offensive. I have been in that situation to many times and know the depth of frustration and sense of dismissal that comes with with being told you are wrong. I do, however, want to speak to what I know about the servers especially the one in question.
I eat at the Little Diner four or five times a week and have never experienced nor witnessed anything resembling even racial insensitivity. I'm fact, I have seen only the opposite. The people and the ambiance, beyond the delicious food, are the primary reasons why I continue to eat there. The servers and the owners work hard to create a welcoming environment and a family atmosphere. And, it is...
