Stay away from this place if service is a factor when you go out to eat! Also, not the place for the Native Desi - especially if you've seen any other Indian restaurants with a great selections for prix fixe weekend buffets.
I too generally tend to be skeptical of poor reviews - attributing them to demanding customers - but in this case couldn't agree more with the other poor reviews - sadly leaving the place feeling the same way after having spent my money there. I don't generally write reviews but felt obliged to do so in this case.
Service: Culturally Indians welcome guests serving them with humility and grace. That is just our culture. Not what you can expect here from an arrogant manager who surprisingly I later found out was is also owner!!
Excited about finding a place with rave reviews, we called ahead and headed to Tulsi for their weekend buffet. When we got there at 2pm (buffet closes at 2.30pm) we found the place to be busy but with at least 3 empty tables, one with the 'Reserved' sign. We were a party of 5 and were told we'd have to wait ~20min for a table. When I suggested that they could possibly join two empty tables (2+4 sittings) and move the "Reserved" sign the other table of 4, the manager said that the table was reserved and that we could sit on two different tables. Only when we started to leave the place did he put together the tables challenging us like he was doing us a favor. His condescending attitude wasn't quite pleasant and had it not been so close to 2.30pm when other Indian restaurants in the area close out - I would not have bothered staying.
Food Selection: the selections weren't quite what we've gotten to expect at prix fixe Indian lunch buffets - and we've been to many. When I asked the manager about the small selection, he retorted with - that this what we have and that we could order from their al carte menu if wanted more things to eat. At this point I indicated my displeasure over his attitude and mentioned to him that had I not been with my elderly father and my two little hungry children who had started serving themselves I would have left. The manager was unfazed, unapologetic and arrogantly brushed me off stating he owned 6 restaurants! Really! He never later bothered to come around even as a courtesy to ask us about our visit or if they could do anything to make our visit any better. Any other sane restaurant owner would have done just that.
Quite the shame as the food itself wasn't that bad. But then we don't go out just to eat but for the experience of spending quality time with family and friends over good food. Ironically one of the other servers who saw the whole situation was very apologetic and tried making it up as best as he could.
The place was cramped - we had to maneuver between tables to get to the buffet - not quite the cavernous place their website images made it seem. Expect to be rubbing shoulders with other customers when the place is busy. Although size is not a factor in this review - some of the smallest place can be the best.
I'm sure you'll get to read the restaurant's response to my review but please make up your own minds if you do choose to not heed my advise and go there anyways.
Advise to Benny (I think) the manager/owner - If you don't have the penchant to serve - hire a manager with good people skills - you have neither the skills nor the decency to be polite. Remember the Customer is always...
Read moreWe recently had Tulsi (Nanuet) cater a workplace event at Montefiore, and it was an absolute hit! Finding a catering service that delivers both quality and quantity can be a challenge, but Tulsi exceeded our expectations in every way.
From the start, the ordering process was seamless. The owner and staff were so helpful in guiding us through the menu, ensuring we had a well-balanced selection that would accommodate various dietary preferences. The food was ready on time, well-packaged, and still hot—ready to be served without any hassle.
Now, let’s talk about the food. The chicken tikka was a crowd favorite, perfectly marinated and grilled to perfection. It was paired beautifully with fluffy basmati rice and freshly made Kerala Paratha. The spice levels were just right, ensuring everyone could enjoy the meal, but we cooled off with delicious mango lassi.
For dessert, we had a custom order tray of payasam which was a delightful treat—warm, vermicelli noodles in a kheer pudding- just the right amount of sweetness to end the meal on a high note.
Not only was the food delicious, but the portions were generous, ensuring no one went hungry. My entire Montefiore team raved about the meal, and we’ll definitely be using Tulsi for future events. If you're looking for top-notch Indian catering that delivers on both taste and service, look no...
Read moreTulsi is hands down the best Indian restaurant I've experienced in Rockland County – and honestly, one of the best anywhere.
From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality. The ambiance is elegant yet relaxed, with beautiful touches of Indian decor that make you feel both comfortable and special.
Food is absolutely phenomenal. Every dish is crafted with care, bursting with authentic flavor and perfectly balanced spices. Whether you're indulging in their creamy, rich butter chicken, savoring the smoky tandoori dishes, or trying their vegetarian options like the paneer tikka or baingan bharta – everything is fresh, vibrant, and unforgettable.
The naan is perfectly soft with just the right crisp around the edges, and their biryanis are fragrant, tender, and generous in portion. Don’t skip the appetizers – the samosas and chili cauliflower are out of this world.
Service is always attentive and kind without being overbearing. The owners clearly take pride in what they do – and it shows in every plate and every interaction.
Tulsi is a place you’ll want to return to again and again. Whether you're a longtime lover of Indian cuisine or trying it for the first time, this restaurant will leave a lasting impression.
Highly, highly...
