Sigh, I had such high hopes for this place- since NOTHING like it exists in Rockland. They have been open sometime now and it was hard to find, the sign above the establishment still says cups n kones, no banner or anything put over to state business name only a small tiny sign in the window stating Wilma’s Tea Cosy-
It’s a 70° October Saturday at 2:30p, first thing when walking in was it was easily 80 inside so incredibly hot. Second thing there are 5 tables 2 of them occupied and the other 3 piled with dirty dishes from previous customers. I was told I needed to wait for one to be cleaned before being seated by a nice gentleman. The table was adorned with a tablecloth, runner & placemats, the gentleman removed the placemats and the dirty dishes, then brushed the tablecloth and runner off with a paper towel, and then proceeded to put new place mats on the table before we were seated. When I sat down with my child, it was obvious the tablecloth was stained around the area that weren’t covered by the placemats (gross), the table itself was very wobbly like a leg was short. The other tables were obviously not in need of service at the moment while we were looking over the menu- but I would have thought after clearing our table the gentleman would then immediately go to clear the other 2 in case someone else came in… but would you believe those remaining 2 tables + one of the occupied tables who had finished REMAINED dirty and piled high full of dirty dishes the whole time we were there and still when we got up to leave 1hr 20 min later!! Like why? It is not nice to be seated around tables piled high of dishes not being cleared. It is not like they were busy at all-
Now to the tea & food. Tea was great and good selection- food no where near traditional afternoon tea selections or presentation. Think traditional white bread sandwiches cut in half. Tea sandwiches are traditionally small petite finger sandwiches.
Maybe it was an off day, but I just can’t fathom how on a weekend day where no one else entered after us, that MULTIPLE tables can be piled high with dishes, and not cleared until possibly the next customer walks in. The table that left before us when they left the table it should have been immediately cleared as it was only us and the other table still seated but no it was left with the remaining 2 dirty tables from when I entered. Instead the gentleman was just sitting behind the counter on the phone or just sitting down. No other customer entered after us, the tables should have been bussed and cleared!
Price was reasonable for $23 One pot of tea, two choices of sandwiches, and one dessert.
Overall, this place has so much potential and uniqueness to the area but I just feel like it’s very out of place and not living up to what it is described...
Read moreWhat a treasure. Had the most wonderful time here. The atmosphere and decor was lovely and homely. We picked out our own teapots which was a nice touch. The staff was so so nice and warm and calm. We weren’t hurried at all. Which is rare for this area.
They had a delicious selection of teas: I had the apricot rooibos and my husband had hibiscus.
I’m British so I am very particular about my afternoon teas and my husband lived in Africa so he’s particular about his jollof rice. Everything was super fresh and home made. Seasoned to perfection, light, delicate home cooking. The little patties, the scones, the sandwiches and the rice, just yummy.
We loved it and the price is so reasonable for what you get I didn’t quite believe I was in Rockland. We will...
Read moreWe had a wonderful time at Wilma’s for some tea and snacks. The tea selection is wonderful and the best part is you get to choose the teapot that your tea is served in. Makes it more interactive. There are packages to choose from that include food for one or two people. The sandwiches were great as well as the jollof rice. The soup of the day was chicken noodle which wasn’t bad. The service is wonderful and you do end up having a great tea time with whoever you go with. There’s also a monthly tea party on the last Sunday of the month that you can make reservations for. There’s plenty of tea shops in nyc, but here’s one of the few in...
