I went for brunch with my sisters, and everyone loved their food. They serve a complimentary salmon canapé if you order two specialty brunch items, and it was a hit. We shared the Bananas Foster French toast, and let me tell you—it was one of the most delicious brunch items ever! I’m serious about brunch, and although I’m not usually into sweets, this was perfectly balanced, not overly sweet like you might expect.

I had the filet benedict, which came with huge filet medallions. The portion size was surprising. It was served on brioche or maybe sourdough—not sure, but it was amazing. It tasted like it could have been homemade. Instead of the typical hollandaise, it came with a silky, delicious bearnaise sauce that had just the right amount of tarragon. My eggs were initially hard poached, so I had to ask for a remake. The second time, the filet was medium instead of medium-rare, but I didn’t mind because it was still incredibly tasty.

My sister, who ordered the avocado benedict, had an issue with her egg temperature as well, but she absolutely loved her dish. My other two sisters both got the breakfast skillet and mostly just made "mmmm" sounds while eating.

Service was excellent, though the hashbrowns were a letdown—odd-tasting, like they’d been cooked in old oil, but no one really cared. The steak and egg temperature issues seemed like small mistakes, possibly just our table or a line cook who needs to work on timing. Despite those minor problems, we LOVED what we enjoyed. I highly...

Restaurant Review: Mr. D’s at the Desmond in Albany

Nestled in the elegant Desmond Hotel, Mr. D’s delivers a dining experience that perfectly balances sophistication and comfort. My recent visit was an absolute delight, thanks in no small part to Tracy, our server extraordinaire.

From the moment we sat down, Tracy’s warm and personable demeanor set the tone for the evening. She greeted us as if no time had passed, remembering us from a visit years ago—an impressive and genuine touch. Her knowledge of the menu and drinks was impeccable, and her pride in working at Mr. D’s shone through in her attentive, quick service and expert recommendations.

The food was as remarkable as the service. The osso bucco was the star of the evening—fall-off-the-bone tender and packed with flavor, it was a dish to savor. Complementing the meal was a perfectly executed dirty martini, spot-on in balance and presentation.

The ambiance tied everything together. With its sleek, modern decor, cozy fireplace, and refined yet inviting atmosphere, Mr. D’s is a prime spot for a relaxing dinner or a celebratory evening out.

Mr. D’s at the Desmond is a gem in Albany, offering top-notch service, delicious food, and a chic atmosphere that feels like a home away from home. If you’re lucky enough to have Tracy as your server, you’re in for an...

The extra star is 1/2 for convenience ( its right off the lobby) and 1/2 for the sweet potato fries... ordered the "Argentine Burger"... big mistake... First issue, as a native Argentine myself, is the inclusion of fried jalapeños.... NO ONE in the Argentine República consumes this... unless is at an ethnic restaurant. Or even heard of it if it wasn't for The Simpsons... or a trip to Mexico.... The chimichurri sauce tasted like they grabbed 3 day old pesto sauce and added red pepper.... Second issue, the irregularity of the drink measurement, half a finger on the first one, two (proper amount) on the second one. Stick to the regular burger as a pub grab and a draft beer if coming down here. The waitress was as nice as I was when I worked as a waiter and saw a group of 10 Long Island teachers coming in for lunch to share 2 apps, 3 meals and 1 dessert ( all while sneaking in water and snapple bottles). Overall, a bad experience. Felt like I was a nuisance rather...

Supper: Chicken Francaise - amazing! Creamy, tasty, savory. Desert: Adirondack Cookie - this is the kind of desert you would disown your mother to get. I can't recommend it enough. (see pictures) Price: Coke: $4 Chicken Francaise: $23 Adirondack Cookie: $11 Tip: $6.96 Tax: $3.04 Total: $48 Breakfast: Create-your-own-omelet (you don't assemble it, just tell them what ingredients you want) - this was also very good. I recommend the ranch and hollandaise sauces. (No drink, just water) Total w. tip: $18 I had read the prior good reviews - they were right! I was staying at the Crowne Plaza, and you could charge your food to your room, which I appreciate. 5/5 would return

The food is OUTSTANDING! We travel alot and eat at hotel restaurants and are mostly always disappointed but this place was amazing. I had the seared apple pork chop and it was so delicious. The asparagus was good, the pork chop was juicy! I've been to places were the pork chop would be dry and rough yuck. If you're in the area or staying at the lovely hotel definitely stop by and eat here! Seat yourself, the staff, chef and waitress are kind and friendly.

Food is very well executed, but the wait staff seems to struggle on getting the details right. Have eaten here twice and any time Susan is our waitress the meal has been subpar. We finish eating before she comes back to check on us, then tries to make up for inaccurate orders with a $2 discount. Completely unacceptable for a restaurant where the average spend is $40-50 per person. Delicious food, but eat at the bar if you are looking for quality service.
